I took a private car from Beijing centre to Yunmengsham yesterday which took 1.5 hours there and 2 hours back (we hit traffic coming back) and cost me 600 RMB (roughly £60-£65)... Entry fee was 40 RMB (roughly £4). My driver suggested I take 5 hours in the park... I had read somewhere online that to reach the the top & back to allow 6 hours... I managed up and down in 4 hrs 40 including a 20min stop at the summit but with limited stops up and down... I think 6 hours is realistic if you want a more relaxed experience... The park is stunning, lovely rivers and mountains - and actually, the summit doesn't hold the best views - you could go 3/4 of the way up to enjoy the nicest parts - and walking on some of the flat paths through the park might be a nicer way/as nice (especially if you have children etc) to enjoy the gorgeous scenery. If you are climbing leave early as it will get hot - think the park opens at 8am, I started at 8.30 and was glad of it! Loads of places on the bottom and paths for picnic spots, though wasn't aware of any shops really apart from at the main entrance so take what you need. Lots of loos though! This was a really nice day out to escape to get some fresh air and peace -really recommend for beautiful views.

We did this hike in summer with our children. While we did not make it to the top (because it is quite a way up, we came to maybe 80%, need to start earlier in the day next time, or on a cooler day) it still was a wonderful tour with nice views along the way. Good but still natural paths, and even a creek running along most of the beginning of the path, in which one can cool one's feet, and our dig live it! It was comparably clean and not too busy on a summer weekend. Highly recommendable!

The Gorge is situated close to Shuibaozi village. On the way to the attraction we hired a bus (there were 16 of us). On our way back we hired a privat mini-bus for 140-170 RMB to Miyun and the took bus No.980 to Beijing Dongzhimen. The entrance fee is 20 yuan/per person/per day. To drive in you have to pay 200 RMB for a car. You will have to show the tickets when leaving the attraction. It takes about 5-7 km walking till you reach the place to stop over night. It is a very nice place for recreation in wild nature, there are a few people, the air is clean, the water is cold and fresh, the view is marvelous. Don't count on watching a sound sunset or sunrise - you have mountains all around so it might be freezing till the sun comes up into the sky (around noon). Then it might be super hot, but you could swim in a river. We went camping for two days, and we enjoyed the trip a lot. A piece of advise: take the means of sun-protection, don't take dogs unless you have your own car and try not to take babies. Check up the weather forecast before going. Take enough food and drinking water - there are no shopping opportunities.
