Organized tours are perhaps the Only way to reach Jietai Temple. We took a day tour from Beijing. It's about an hour away to the Western side of the city.
1. IF you go in April / May the Lilacs are in FULL BLOOM. The sight of a garden full of colorful giant lilacs can relieve your fatigue immediately.
2. The Pagoda Hugging Pine became my favorite tree of them all. It's really amazing to see this 1200 year old Pine tree actually 'Bending and Curving' to HUG the Pagoda :: Embrace it.......while all the other Pines are standing straight.
3. The Ordinance Hall and the 1000 year old wooden furniture are very Historical. It was every Monk's dream come true to be 'Ordained' at Jietai. [ Similar to Havard / Stanford / Oxford !!!!]
4. The statue of the 20 armed God holding various symbols in each arm was carved with minute details. It invoked 'Awe' and admiration easily.
There are several Pine Trees and small shrines. The Temple itself is on a small hill. Very few tourists bother to travel this far. It's Green and Peaceful and is only for those travellers who are willing to spend a few hours to see China as it really was.
IF you are even remotely interested in Buddhist Philosophy, It's a MUST.
