Went randomly after what I had been planning to do was full. It was actually pretty interesting, though expensive entry

Magnificent collection or rare Sandalwood furniture
Jan 2017 • Couples
We visited the Sandalwood Museum during a recent visit to Beijing. It was worth it!

The museum is the largest privately owned museum in Beijing. It's adjacent to the Marriott Sandalwood Executive Apartments. Your room key gets you free admission, otherwise it costs 50 RMB.

Red Sandalwood is an extremely rare Chinese wood. The museum's patron is passionate about preserving both older pieces of furniture and commissioning architectural models of famous Chinese buildings and landmarks.

The architectural models are mostly built in 1:10 scale, which means they are huge! Taking photos is restricted, yet allowed at the really great pieces. They have icons telling you where you can take pictures.

The two main types of sights you will see are the huge models or the room settings. Absolutely everything is Museum quality.

It's very impressive. I'm glad we went!

beautiful pieces; expensive entry
Jan 2016 • Solo
It's a 350m walk (5 min) from exit A of the Gaobeidian metro station on line 1 (transfer line). It's 50 RMB per ticket which is an expensive price for a tourist site. Other museums typically are priced at 20 RMB. With your ticket, you receive a magazine. There are five floors with exhibits on Ming and Qing style furniture, Buddhist culture artworks, and scale models of ancient architectures. All items are beautifully arranged, behind glass or a boundary line with direct lighting. Signs have simple English names but no further English text about the details. There is a lot of attention on the curator of the museum, Mrs. Chan Laiwa. Through out the museum there are many portraits of her. Also there is a dedicated wall of gifts presented to her.

Nov 11th 2014 visit

All furniture should be allowed to be photographed especially to display the proportion of the piece to the visitor.iThe huge size eg. the main hall chest on chest cabinets, at about 4m in ht can only stand out with oneself standing next to it to show the enormous size of the piece. This is invaluable for the visitor to take home. The 4 pcs in two sets do not even appear in the museum published book, being new additions.I had forgotten to record down the dimensions, thinking they were in the book which I had bought earlier. The sheer size is very impressive. Please allow visitors to take photos up close to really appreciate the furniture and the greatness of Chinese carpentry plus love for the purple sandal wood timber .
