When you go to Beijing make this a stop, you see it on TV, you see the battles, but it's nothing until you see it. You need to be in pretty good health as the climb is straight up, and the Steps are very uneven,...More

I bought this experience for my son and his girlfriend while they were traveling in Beijing and they had an amazing time. They were so happy with the day hike and their guide was amazing. It was a highlight of the trip.

We went into our hike at the Jinshanling section of the Great Wall with little knowledge of the wall or Chinese history in general. We just wanted a semi-strenuous hike on a Wonder of the World we had always hoped to see. We got that...More

Peter was an absolute gentleman and knew his topic inside out. Was a pleasure learning from him. We had booked a small group tour but we were the only couple on the trip so we had a private tour with Peter. Weather was fantastic and...More

I did this daytrip in October 2017 (the "When did you visit" box doesn't go back that far) and just now stumbled onto the operators' email where they asked me to leave a TripAdvisor review. But I remember this excursion VERY well because it was...More

My dream of hiking the Great Wall of China came true! It was unforgettable and everything that I had hoped it would be. I spent time upfront researching which section of the Wall would be best for me--I wanted a less touristy, more authentic hiking...More

My teenage daughter and I spent a day on the wall with our guide Peter. A local Beijinger, he was very knowledgeable and guided us out onto a section of the "wild" (unrestored) Wall away from the (other) tourists; so quiet, peaceful and scenic; what...More

Mark was an exceptional guide, taking us to old and restored areas of the wall, and tailoring the trip based on what we were after. We saw sections of the wall with no other tourists and made it for a very special sunrise on the...More

That was a memorable experience! This small company is very well-organized and understands what people value most. So if you want a very competent guide (who knows English and history of the Chinese civilization), a hike on a section of the wall without anybody (literally,...More

We completed our hike at Simatai West and used Great Wall hiking. I suggest you contact them by email and they will be best to advise. We opted for the toboggan ride (not the chair lift) down from the wall and there was an... More

I agree with the other answers - we tipped 200/100 Yuan per day to the guide and driver. They were brilliant and deserved every penny. (We had Robert and Jason)

I do not recall what we gave, but it must have been around 10-20 eur for the two of us. This seems little compared to the price of the tour, but is a good tip for them. They do expect a tip, but will not be offended if you... More

Looking for Great Wall Hiking Companion (0 Replies)
Hi! I'm going on a 4 day hike on the Great Wall and looking for companion(s). Looking to either: 1. Join a guided tour like wildgreatwall or tourbeijing. However most of these tours I see charge ridiculously high prices for just one person, so joining with 1 or more will make the cost reasonable. 2. Less likely but more exciting, go out and explore without a guide. Pls send a pm if interested and go from there. Otherwise, any suggestion how to look for companions? I'm more of a solo...More

Great Wall Hiking - private/group tour (4 Replies)
I was wondering if someone could recommend a good tour company to do a 1 day hike at the great wall. I have done this 3 years ago and prices have gone through he roof. My options: 1. Take a private tour 2. Join a group and save some money. The challenge here is the scheduling as it appears not many people sign up for single tour for a given day, so trying to find an operator with sufficient volume is hard. Wost case scenario is getting a private car to the wall, but not sure about a...More

Great Wall Hiking--need reservation? (9 Replies)
I will be in Beijing in early August, and I'd like to hike a few km on the great wall, maybe with the company "Great Wall Hiking" that gets good reviews here, or some similar outfit. I am wondering whether one needs to reserve significantly in advance, or if I can wait until a couple of days ahead, so I can hopefully choose a day that it's not 40 C!

If you just want to walk a couple ofmhours on the wall, visit the Mutianyu section. You can arrange a driver for this when you are there. Have a look at the top 10 question section on the right side of this page.
