Our group was dropped off at one end -- we walked through -- and our bus picked us up at the north gate.
The walk represents the journey from the secular world to the spiritual world and leads to the 13 Ming tombs.
"shenlu" means sacred way and the path is guarded by carved stone men and animals that guard the tombs. They are in pairs -- alternately standing and resting -- on and off duty.
Our guide told us to be sure and say, "I'm back," when we existed the gate and returned "to life."

The carved stone animals followed by carved stone officials and generals are part of the Sacred Way. We stopped here first before going to Changling Tomb. The path is well maintained and very picturesque. The tour bus used to drive through here but tour groups no longer stop here so it is really quiet now. I would recommend visiting if you have extra time. We were dropped off at the front entrance and picked up at the other end, took about an hour to walk.

The Stone Animals, also referred as the Sacred Street is part of the extended Ming Tomb complex, although they are situated in a distance that require transport by car or bus to take you there.
It is a long straight path, a few hundred meters, decorated with repeated patterns of animals and human figures. It is quiet, green and peaceful to walk. Since it is was not so crowded we had the chance to take a few good pictures there. You exit on the far side of the entrance, where usually the tour busses wait for you. At the end there are two pillars on each side with a gargoyle type of animal on top of each one, toillets and a central building hosting a huge stone tortoise.
About 30 min walk is required to cover the distance.

If you were to visit the Ming tombs, you have to travel along the Sacred Way that leads up to the tomb of the Changling masoleum The stone animals are the guardians that flank both sides of the pathway. This does not only include the twenty four scared animals but also twelve stone humans that include official and civilian figures. Years ago, these figures were fenced off in order that people could not climb on the animals. This does not appear to be the case now and there are no fencing around these stone sculptures. It is a beautiful walkway amidst a picturesque park like setting.

This was a neat walk way to see. Your driver dropped us off with our guide and then picked us up at the other end. Impressive garden and stone statues. I’m guessing this is very beautiful in the summertime.

We are on a tour and were brought here after we left The Ming Tomb and it is gorgeous and so peaceful as you stroll from one end to the other. The statues are 600 yrs old, some real, some mythical.

This was fun to see. The statues are interesting and the grounds are well kept and pretty. For some reason, this is not a stop for Chinese tours. So, there were not many people there which made it more pleasant for those of us who were there. Basically, you stroll down the path looking at the statues. It is a good thing to see if you are in the area.

We enjoyed our walk along the Sacred Way seeing all the different stone animals. We couldn't help but join the throngs of tourists taking selfies at the various ones.

We stopped here on the way back from the Wall .
It's a longish walk featuring carved Generals and animals (both real and legendary). As far as I can remember the dead Emperors were carried this way on the way to their tombs.
