Arrive at least 1h before your train as it can get busy to get into the station. Once in is really easy to find your way around, big screens with trains timetables, announcements in English for every boarding /departing train. It is more organized than any European city, user-friendly.

At the third attempt I've worked out the easiest pick up point is the West Entrance on the 2nd level (departures).

When you arrive into Beijing South Railway Station, head towards the South Exit but go through the security check and up the escalator.

Go up 2 levels to the top, this is the departures level.

The West Entance is down the left side of the building and it is very easy for DiDi drivers to pick you up here.

This was my first trip to Beijing South Railway Station. I was told to leave early from my hotel (Westin Beijing Chaoyang) - approximately 40 minutes. It was a comfortable ride to the station.

The cab driver dropped me off at the west entrance which was great - which I later found out as the ticket counter to collect my tickets was just to the right of the entrance.

Go to Ticket Counter #1 to collect your ticket (please have your passport and booking details ready).

In case you are wondering, I bought my tickets using the trip.com app - which was really convenient to use by the way.

Okay, back to the west entrance.

Just be warned that there is a security baggage check before entering the railway station - so buffer time for this. I was fortunate my queue moved really fast.

Food? Lots of food options (international & local) at the railway station so you won't go hungry.

Hope you find this helpful.

The bullet train made traveling 4+ hours into 2 hours of enjoyable accommodation worthy repeating. The lady assisting us was courteous and very helpful. The seats in the business class reclines and can actually allow passengers to lay flat and sleep.

New and big as everything in Beijing. A bit hard to navigate unless you are going by
Metro or bus. I took a bullet train heading to Shanghai and since I was leaving Beijing I wanted to withdraw the remaining amount in my IC card. The office for doing this is called BMAC and are located in or on the way to the bus terminal, but no specific signs for this office - look for an anonymous door over which there is a big blue sign (Beijing Municipal Administration & Communications Card Co LTD) - see the attached picture. Opening hours are 8:30 am to 7:30 pm so if you have an early visit here it’s not sure you will have time for repurchase of your IC card. Another thing that was hard to find out was that even though the information was that check in for the trains opens 1 hour before departure, they are letting people in in the same order their train departs. That means if your train departs 10 am and another train departs 9:45 am from the same gate they don’t let you in until the gate closes for the 9:45 departure, which is 9:30. Relax and have a coffee instead, there is plenty of places.

This train station is amazing. It's very easy to navigate, although we buy our tickets through the hotel because it's easier.

You go through airport type security before entering the building. You carry your own luggage, because they don't have carts.

The station is huge and modern. The high speed trains come and go from here. There are fast food places.

Here's something you need to know: the Chinese have a sixth sense when it's time to lineup before the gate for s train opens to the public. If you wait for the official announcement, you'll be at the back of the line. When you see a line forming for your train, get on it.

The order board showing trains and tracks alternates between Mandarin and English.

We found people very helpful.
