Fun

We had a daytrip to this park last weekend. We found lots of people flying kites around the entrance of the park.
There is no entrance fee, and the park is very nicely made around a big lake, where you can also rent boats and float around in the water.
Lots of people had a picnic the grass.
The wildlife park inside the park is also for free, and there is a mini zoo inside. We paid 20 rmb to take a electric bus safari to see the dears and Elks inside. We could not get very close but managed to see them well from the bus.

Actual wildlife in Beijing!

We visited with a couple locals who were excited to show us the animals. A large section of the park is a wildlife reserve of sorts, with an elevated boardwalk that enables you to circle around the perimeter and look for wildlife. Many large deer, both very large and very small, can be easily spotted. Also enjoyed a number of waterfowl of various sizes, peacocks, and a few other interesting birds. Entrance was free, but I guess there is a small fee to park a car. Bus gets fairly close in a couple spots, we entered from the south which allowed us to walk across a large open park that resembles a fairgrounds in the US as we walked up to the nature park itself. It appeared that very few foreigners find their way to this park, but we enjoyed it. It is farther south past the Temple of Heaven and Pearl Market area, so if you are heading down that way, give it some consideration. Good for families. There is also a lake with boats for rent. There is some English, but having visited many parks in NA I found it interesting to see how the Chinese handle a nature park.

came here to see Père David's deer

China is trying to reestablish this deer in china. It had become extinct in china, but due to Duke of Bedford, was instrumental in saving the species in europe. The chinese have reintroduced the animals from those remnants. There is public transportation to the park. The park itself is really a large wildlife park with plenty of animals wandering around.
