Everything about the museum is great - different types of exhibitions are included, but it was very irritating that you need to wait in huge lines - first the security check and then the line for the museum. Also a plus is that the entrance...More

Be prepared for long waits and large groups. Unless you push your way in you won't see anything as it is a sheer numbers game. Well worth the visit if you are able to see everything.

One of my favorites. After taking visitors to see Tiananmen Square, we usually head over to the National Museum. I enjoy the "revolutionary" hall with the artwork of key moments from Communist history, and the many halls of art featuring important Chinese artists, as well...More

The biggest issue with this museum is is within the forbidden city security perimeter. There is no separate entrance, yesterday we waited one hour and 15 minutes just to get through security, with a lot of pushing. This kind of put a damper on the...More

Yes, you can take as many pictures as you like in most exhibitions, provided the camera does not use a tripod or have flash on. There are some exhibits in which this is not allowed but these are quite clearly marked.
