Having just spent a wonderful night in the Riverside Hotel we explored the Expo. Started at the inside of the main building, it was complete with wonderful displays covering not just plants but rock, jade and an assortment of well placed stands and handicrafts. The smell from the lilies was amazing and you could tell they were nearby before you saw them.

I was told they had a light show on the Friday and Saturday but sadly we missed this. If the lights we saw were an indication this should not be missed.

Once outside take the garden shuttle - 10 yuan pp which goes to the end of the pathway and enables you to stroll back, taking in various exhibits which are displayed by different regions. There are plenty of places to stop and eat, plus have a break.

Plenty of families as this place is suited to strolling and it took awhile to return to the main building (because of the distance not the crowds) and don't think we even scratched the surface of the many displays. Great photo opportunities here!

An extremely colorful parade was held along the Main Street and they floats were great, loud music and very happy performers accompanied it.

Highly recommended.

Worth the visit if you are into plants and flowers. We went on a weekday and it was relatively few people although there were several school groups that were relatively well behaved but their supervisors need some training. One group had the leader with a loudspeaker breaking the peaceful setting. Another group had the supervisor have the male kindergarten kids pee into a plastic bottle instead of taking them to the toilet which was right next to them, obviously to save the supervisor some work- really disgusting!

The park itself is huge and you can easier spend several hours. There are 5 greenhouses with different displays and laid out very well. No English so you need to know your species. Very clean and lots of tables to have lunch but few outlets and the few that are there are over priced and food is bad so bring your own.

Entrance fee is 60rmb and 45 on line but you need to have a local make the purchase with a local id and phone number. Free parking.

There are much better things to see in Beijing. This is mostly a waste of time and money. There are few greenhouses and some flowers outside. We spent one morning there.
