Located in the Summer Palace, this building was known as Renshoudian and was the Emperor administrative hall. In the middle of the hall is a platform with a throne with nine dragons and a red sandalwood screen. The Empress Cixi managed the affairs of the court, unseen, from behind the screen. The courtyard is filled with impressive sculptures but what stands out is the Kylin, a mythical beast with dragon head, lion tail, deer horn and hoofs.

One of the many halls that you can not enter - but the outside is impressive. Lot of people here. The sculptures are amazing and each have its own history.

I rented the audio guide, but it was such a poor quality that I did not use it. So I read up on it after I got back.

This part of the Forbidden City seemed to have a better "vibe", with people more upbeat and appreciating what they were seeing. The bronze statues were certainly interesting and quite quirky in their intricate design. The hall itself was equally impressive. Crowded, like all parts in the area, but still easy enough to find a quiet corner and take it all in.

When visiting the temples and palaces in Beijing, this has to be on your list. It is takes you back to the time when the emperors built these places as a route to heaven. Just beautiful.
