You can see this building from most places inside the summer palace grounds. A small separate fee is payable to enter this building, with 50% discount for seniors. We enjoyed the view of this building while taking a cruise around the lake.

The Summer Palace as a whole is beautiful. Its definitely a must see in Beijing. We went in winter and I'm hoping to see it again in summer sometime. I imagine the trees will be brighter and I'll get to see alot more of it.

But for the crowds during my visit, this is a seemingly very peaceful and tranquil place of worship. Views of the Summer Palace grounds and waters are excellent from the upper levels. The stairs can be slippery.

Ok, most people think this IS the summer palace, while it is just the pagoda of the temple.
For those who plan to visit it, remember:
1. There is an additional ticket that has to be purchased at the foot of the Longevity Hill.
2. You will have to climb all the stairs to the top.
3. You won't be able to enter the pagoda (or the temple of that matter)
4. You will still have a nice view of the park and the lake, so make sure you go with good weather.

For me this was one of the highlights of the Summer Palace. The views at the top were breathtaking. However I wouldn't recommend it for children or the elderly as you have to climb alot of steps.

during your visit to the Summer Palace, take the boat across the lake If you can take a longer boat ride, it is worth it. Picture worthy scenery.

With planty of time to spend in the summer palace, this is a place to go and pay a visit. As the highest point of the park, it provides a great view of the lake and the mountains in the west. The building itself is striking too.

Inside the Summer Palace, there is a building at the top of a hill which has a magnificent view to the whole lake inside the park. Also, it has a spectacular view to Beijing. But to get there you will need to walk 100+ steep steps, which at the end are worth the effort.

We went onto the gardens on the opposite side and explored it was stunning to have our own picnic there in peace and quiet with no one around us. Peace in the chaos of China!
