About Side-car Motorcycles Trips - Beijing Sideways
Beijing Sideways provides you with a sideways look of China, Beijing and its surrounding.Aboard our vintage sidecar motorbike, we show the Beijing we love, without the crowds. This form of transportation allows us to be very flexible with our exploration, stopping easily whenever necessary, a very close proximity with the city and countryside where you can «almost touch» anything you see, but above all it’s a sightseeing wonder! Did we mention it’s extremely fun?

Just a great thing to do in Beijing and a way to get a feel for the city esp if you have limited time. At booking they ask you to mention what interests you and Chris, my guide for the day, made a real effort to fit all the things I mentioned in. The company are very easily contactable by email and phone and English ( several languages in fact) are not a problem. They were also kind enough to allow me to reschedule when my flight was delayed ( Thankyou Chris). Chris was a great driver, and super knowledgeable about Chinese history and culture as well as knowing some really cool things and places about Beijing. We parked the bike for a few interesting walks and also had some very interesting conversation, it was kinda like a day out with a friend. Do it, it’s way cool

It's all our pleasure Helen. I am so glad you summed up your experience this way because that's how we define the job of our "Insider-guides". All foreigners in China, they are like the "friend of a friend" you'd have in a city who embarks you in a discovery of his/her city of adoption (you know: "if you pass by Beijing, give a shout to my friend Chris for good tips"). Next the Great wall?;-)

We had a very short stay in Beijing (basically 3 days) and wanted to see as much as we could while there, which meant we would need an organized tour with a guide. I've never been a fan of the "tour-bus" travel way of seeing the world and was hesitant to book a local guide based on the general cost and chances of getting less than we were hoping for. But then I heard about Beijing Sideways and thought that it seemed like a heck of a good way to see a city. The tour blew my expectations out of the water. We spent a full day cruising around Beijing with Gael, the general manager of Beijing Sideways, on an old Shineray group motorcycle with sidecar. We had a blast! We toured around the Hutong neighbourhoods covering far more ground than we ever would have in a car or bus, with Gael maneuvering us expertly through and around traffic. We got to see a pretty extensive cross section of Beijing, from old to new, rich to poor. It was great. The best part was really being able to interact with the city without windows and barriers getting in our way. If you are going to Beijing and are the slightest bit adventurous, don't hesitate, just do this tour! You won't regret it.

AMAZING! Riding in a sidecar through Beijing to the Great Wall is an exciting way to see the city. The part of the Great Wall you go to is not busy at all, so great for picture taking. Hike to the Great Wall and on the Great Wall is steep & strenuous, but I was able to take as many rests as I needed. The views were stunning - it was well worth it. Lunch was amazing - beautiful little picnic on the wall. Our guide (Chris) was knowledgeable and answered so many questions. If I could give this tour more than five stars I would!!

I took a half-day tour and it was one of the best things I did in China! With so many scooters, motorcycles, and other small conveyances on Beijing's streets, I wanted to experience this perspective - but I am definitely not confident enough to drive a scooter (or anything else) through that madcap traffic! Enter Gael and his Sideways Tours. As a Frenchman living in Beijing for 18 years, Gael has a local's knowledge and a foreigner's perspective (on tours with Chinese guides, they were wonderful and knowledgable, but sometimes I felt like I was getting the glossy pamphlet version of everything... with Gael I felt like I was learning more about what it was really like to live there). We cruised through the hutongs and past the opera house, we checked out the view of Temple of Heaven from the roof of the Pearl Market, stopped at the city walls museum for some ancient history, paused at the riverwalk to catch the last of the swimmers in the frigid river, and checked out the unbelievable collection of contemporary sculpture at Parkview Green mall. After I commented on a Zaha Hadid building as we passed, Gael made sure to cruise past the city's other architectural highlights. Zipping around in the sidecar was exhilarating (and cold - bring a scarf!). So happy I splurged on this tour, it was the BEST way I could have seen the city!
