First off i would like to say that the staff and Chris the owner was so professional with everything. they helped us to book a dive and a fishing trip, both was really excellent! The dive site was amazing. We got to see many different fishes and nice corals. We were 5 guys and 3 of us already had Open water and for 2 guys this was the first time they went diving. we managed to combine everything so that we could do the dive together and the 2 guys that had never done this before was so impressed with this.
I would definitely contact Chris and Peponi again the next time i'm in Mombasa. Many thanks!

I had dived in Kilifi which arguably has Kenya’s best diving ten years ago but had omitted to get my log book stamped so needed to dive in Kenya again to have proof of having dived here as part of my world record quest. (Kenya was officially the 109th country I dived in.)
I contacted the highly efficient Swiss run Peponi divers to organize my dive and they got me a 20% discount at the German run Bahari Beach Club Hotel where they are located. Good location on a nice beach boy free beach, friendly service, good gym next door and masseuse to soothe my weary limbs. I immediately got into holiday mode.
Much of the Kenya and Tanzanian coast has long stretches of shallow water meaning that beach goers have to wade for hundreds of meters until the water is deep enough to swim in as the tide goes out. For divers it means that the long areas of beaches the tides go over carry sand and other particles back into the sea which reduces visibility. It also means that on occasion it is only possible to dive once a day in the afternoon unless you want to depart at 6:30 AM which few guests and dive shops want to do! The day I had set aside to dive in the Mombasa Marine Park was one such day. We left at noon for two tank dives. The first dive was Shark Point, where we did see two large white tips, barracuda, a large green turtle and huge groupers. The second was Green Turtle where we did see a green turtle. But visibility was reduced to about 10 meters as the tide started going out again.
I had a flight the next day so stayed at 15 meters and was given my own divemaster to accompany me. There were only three other divers so this was a real luxury, although diving with Peponi is not cheap. I paid $100 for two tank dives with my own equipment. Had I needed to rent equipment this would have set me back another Euro 80.
Service is excellent from the owner to the manager to the divemasters. They carry your gear out to the boat for you and have a good dive boat. A good place to dive with if visiting Mombasa.

Dived here one year ago and was curious to see how Peponi was doing now (Jan 2015) that tourists are fewer in general at the Kenyan coast. What has happened is that business has scaled down a bit (closed Sundays) with fewer staff. Apart from that, it's just as good. Minimum two divers are required for a dive trip to the outer side of the reef, which means that some days only shallow diving is offered. Apart from this, everything works very well for Peponi Divers. Safety is prioritized, communication is clear and consistent, and somehow there is always lots of stuff to see: at least one big turtle each dive; sharks; moray eels; crocodile fish; scorpion fish; lobsters...
In summary, Peponi still keeps their high standards and a plus is that they still offer free pick up from (and delivery to) hotels on north coast. It seems to be the dive shop that currently does best north of Mombasa and I warmly recommend them. Thanx Chris (your car was cleaner this time around)!

We did the 7 days no limit diving, which sounded great until we found out that each visit to the marine park was going to cost us an additional $20 usd/ person for each visit to the marine park. (so if we wanted to go out twice in the same day it would cost us $40/ person in marine park fees). We wouldn't have a problem with paying these fees if the kenyan wild life services actually had some sort of enforcement or conservation effort in place.
Every day we went out to dive we saw fisherman inside the marine park. We also were picking up garbage from the dive sites on basically every dive. We would have hoped with paying our marine park fees that there would have been enforcement patrols to keep the fishermen out of the park and maybe some sort of organized clean-up (that we would have been more than happy to take place in) once a week at least.
The diving here is great and peponidivers is a wonderful company the staff is very Friendly and helpful, but we won't be diving in Kenya again unless something changes. We spent an additional $280 usd for 2 people to go diving for 7 days on top of what peponi charged that we feel was just a waste/money grab.
We have nothing bad to say about peponi divers. But we are extremely disappointed in the kenyan wild life services.

Hi Jeremy and Kelsey,
many thanks for your review here on TripAdvisor. We are glad you enjoyed the diving with us.
We are also sad about the fact that Kenya Wildlife Services are charging US$ 20.- per trip and diver. The Mombasa beach operator association has really tried to stop that increase of the entry fees from US$ 10.- to US$ 20.- some years back but unfortunately without success.
Also we are sad that there are fishermen in the park especially in the early morning hours which we have reported to KWS several times but it's still happening.
May be you express your disappointment about your experience seeing fishermen inside the park direct to KWS to customerservice@kws.go.ke and/or kws@kws.go.ke.
I believe your input at KWS can help to get things improved.
Many thanks for diving with Peponi Divers Mombasa
With best regards and always safe diving.
Chris

This was our first diving after certification and it was great! We did two days and saw a ton of animals. We were told that whale sharks aren't very common anymore, but we were more than satisfied with giant schools of fish, crocodile fish, moray eels, sea turtles, cuttlefish, lobster and white tipped reef sharks!
Sven and Chris were both very excellent and responsive when booking (it's nice to be able to get all the questions we had answered quickly from the other side of the world).
I would absolutely recommend Peponi to anyone looking to dive in Kenya!

I spent 2 days in a row diving with Peponi and I have great memories of those days. First It is important to highlight the importance they give to safety by carefully checking experience of everyone, detailed briefings and lectures about the dive sites. The rest is pure fun...Mombasa really has great dive sites, clear water and beautiful colours to enjoy

I dived with Peponi on the 28th and 29th November. On-line booking of services was excellent and easy to complete. Prices were very competive and a range of price options available. You had the choice of diving inside or outside of Shanzu Reef, but the latter is the best option. Travel out by speed boat which was first class and fun. Travel back against the current and reciding tide line even more fun. Plenty of marine life on view - quite a few Reef Sharks, some very large Turtles - the biggest I have seen, and reef life to compare at times to the Red Sea. Managed by Chris who offered to pick me up from Whitesands "foc", Peponi is friendly, with first class un-rushed dive guides, and VFM.

I found Peponi Divers to be a very professional company run by a group of experts. The diving instructors a mix of foreign nationals and Keneyans were thorough in their pre dive checks / intructions and watchful and helpful during the dives in the ocean.
I had learnt diving with a PADI certified outfit in Phuket with my brother a couple of years ago and always look for an opportunity to dive in new spots. And so I had booked for a dive in Mombasa while visiting Kenya with my extended family. Initially we had made online bookings for 7 people, all the details including hotel address, pick up time was arranged in advance.
Peopni Divers arranges to pick up guests from hotels, taking them to their dive shop which is located at a hotel in Mombasa. Their boats also launch from the beach of the hotel to the various dive sites. First timers are taught in the hotel's pool which is used for pre-checks.
On the morning of the dive, we awoke to overcast skies and also rain. 3 of the family members decided to back off from diving due to the overcast sky. I tried to call the agency to inform them but could not get through due to local network problem. The Agency arrived at the hotel on time to pick us, upon which I informed them that 3 of our group would not be coming on account of the weather. They were dissapointed as they had made a provision for 7, and could have charged us for last minute cancellation since it was overcast but a relatively calm sea.
But they didnt charge us for the last minute cancellation. and were very accomodating even offering to take extra oxygen tanks incase the visibility was poor and we wanted to check out other dive sites or stay down longer.
As it happened we managed to dive, including my mother and wife who are excellent swimmers but with very lilttle diving experience. All of us even managed to catch sightings of some fish. A clear sky with an African sun would have been ideal, however since we only had that day before boarding our flight the next day, we were all glad to having gone ahead with the dive.
We dived off the coast of Mombasa !is something we can all say and memories to cherish. Definately worth it, but my advise, check out the Weather.Com and the Peponi divers to get a fix on best dates
Happy Diving

Hello S,
many thanks for your feed back. We at Peponi Divers Mombasa are glad you enjoyed our services and safety care for our clients.
We are sorry for the cloudy day, as we "ordered" the sun to come out but she refused ;-) May be during your next Mombasa visit you are more lucky with a sunny diving day.
Best regards

We did 4 dives each whilst in Kenya over Christmas. Chris was very helpful in communicating with us before we went to Kenya. We paid in advance and got a discount. We are advanced divers but as we had not dived in over a year he made us do a 10min pool check to ensure we were ok which included swimming, taking mask off etc. At first I was a bit put out by doing this but it turned out to be great as it took the anxiety out of diving and i could enjoy my first dive rather than having to remember all the skills.
