It was a stunning safari arranged by Stuart from Nashulai Journeys. It started off at the RedTribe camp close to the Tanzanian border for 2 nights giving me a chance to meet Maasai from the local community, walk in the forest and see colobus monkeys.

For the next three nights Patrick, a very experienced Maasai guide, and a team of 3 other Maasai ensured I had a terrific, eye opening and rewarding journey through the Loita Hills. We camped every night, built a fire and ate well with the provisions carried by a pack of 5 donkeys.

We met with the local Maasai and saw zebra, wildebeest and gazelles up close on the way. The scenery is absolutely stunning. For the last night of the safari I stayed at the very comfortable Oldarpoi Mara Camp with its stunning views from the swimming pool.

The next morning we were in the Maasai Mara for sunrise and saw leopards, lions, elephants, giraffes and hippos before heading back to Nairobi. It was a truly awesome safari.

I had the most amazing time here - the camp is beautiful and the tents are really well equipped. Everyone was really friendly and chatty, making me feel at home despite coming by myself. It’s so close to the national park which cannot be described it’s so amazing - my guide Moses was incredible, showing me everything. The food was delicious with great options and they were really accommodating at making things gluten free (including a whole cake for me!). Would love to come back again. Sending my love to Moses and the team!

I stayed for four days at the Nashulai Maasai Conservancy in the Maasai Mara and had a truly excellent time (arranged by Stuart of Nashulai Journeys). Everybody was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Besides having some really enjoyable game drives and seeing much of the wildlife (with good photos), I was also able to observe some of the Maasai's everyday life. Javin especially was extremely informative and was uncomplaining when I asked him to repeat some stories to a tape recorder as he told me too much to remember immediately. Moses was really friendly and a good guide/driver. I should also mention the kindness of the various rangers (Benjamin Koke, Vionah, Faith and Kiok) in spending a lot of time explaining and demonstrating the techniques they use in their conservation work.

All in all, I would strongly recommend visiting the conservancy. I had a great time.

I visited Nashulai in summer 2022 and was amazed at the mission and how the community came together to create a Maasai run community conservancy. I had hesitations about visiting Africa as a tourist as I didn’t want to contribute to the typical exploitative models of conservancy but I longed to see an elephant in the wild. Nashulai was the perfect solution as supporting Nashulai supports an incredible cause and every dollar goes to the local people. Good cause aside, the natural rugged landscape made such a beautiful backdrop for the abundance of wildlife we saw. Getting to walk on the land instead of only seeing it from a car was an unbeatable experience! I highly recommend Nashulai!!!

Only take the amount of money you are prepared to spend in the market. Lovely genuine souvenirs but the start price for haggling can be high. Being able to show that was all we had made things easier

It’s right by the National Maasai Mara Park where I spotted all of the big five and cheetah cubs too. The birds are amazing. Nice camp, food and people with amazing sunsets with storytelling from the local Maasai.

We couldn't believe that there were different variety of giraffes and we were able to explore them very closely. We were able to see local Masai in traditional costumes.

It's amazing that in the 21st century people are still living in these conditions. Although, I suppose it's by choice, it's still quite remarkable. The tour was very interesting and educational. The chief was very friendly and informative but we noticed he was wearing a Seiko watch. Not exactly what you would expect. And, midway, through the tour they started trying to sell us stuff. First, after a demonstration of starting a fire, it was the fire starting tools. Then, after the tour was over, we were led to the marketing section where we were pressured into buying some items that we had seen in stores throughout Africa. Not a great ending but still an interesting stop.

It's an excellent way to spend holidays by visiting this conservancy. Here, you will get to understand how human beings are living in peaceful coexistence with wildlife.
