We had a great tour with Augustine. He was very knowledgeable about the city and especially about Mathare. It was especially cool to meet several of the beneficiaries of the programs while walking through--teenage mothers and children who have received training/scholarships. He treated us with respect and seemed to have a real love for his work and for the people of the city. One reviewer mentioned feeling pressured by the guide's relationship with the vendors, but we never felt any pressure to purchase anything. On the contrary, he let us wander the stalls by ourselves and we didn't purchase anything. He let us go at our own schedule and not spend much time in the tourist stalls. Even though he gave us some great information about the organization, at no time did he pressure us to donate or contribute extra money. He also took us to a great local place for lunch. Highly recommend!

Augustine answered all our questions and schooled us on many social historical and cultural aspects of Kenyan life. It was a nice easy way to see the sights we wanted to see without having to navigate it all alone.

We only had one afternoon in Nairobi, so after reading all the reviews we picked a city walking tour. It was a complete waste of time and money, we were a group of 4 and should have just gone for a walk by ourself. We were about 20mins late due to getting stuck in traffic (we did ring from our uber) on the way there and expected that our time would be cut short however we have never been on a walking tour this bad. We started off with being told a bit of history and a few stories but then things went downhill, we were taken into an old library which was a very odd stop, then some souvenir markets which we asked to just keep going and were given time to shop, then it was off to the roof top viewing. On the walk there we walked past important buildings like city hall and parliament and had to ask what they where. We asked twice on the tour could we please stop to buy water and this was ignored. We were walked back to our starting point to get a taxi back to our hotel. Our guide had clearly called a mate and we were ushered into his car even though we said we weren't ready to go to our hotel yet. We were given an exorbitant price and when we tried to protest and get out he locked the doors on us. We talked him down to something reasonable and went back to our hotel at a total loss at how the afternoon was so bad.

My guide Augustine was awesome! He was friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and open-minded. We had wonderful discussions on tribal cultures in Kenya, languages/dialects, business, people's way of living in rural areas, and even politics! ;-) The tour was beyond 3 hours and we had to stop because I had to go to another meeting. I hope to come back to Kenya many times in the future and incubate some good cross-border businesses that will benefit the locals.
