Passed by this park many times as it is at the far northern end of Moi avenue where the Central Business District ends and you can continue to Westlands.

There are always many people hanging out (especially men), which means it is probably one of the most used public parks in the city. Basically everyone can walk in and out, as there are no guards, entrance fees or other obstacles. In short a real public space as businessman Jeevanjee had wanted it to be.

However, the park is in poor shape and not well maintained. I did not see any garbage around and there are functional benches to sit (most seats are taken). Even though as a white person you stand out, I did not feel unsafe. Jeevanjee's statue wasn't there any more.

At some points men gather to listen to a preacher?

Hallelujah, there are more pastors here than people willing to hear sermons, i really don't know why such places are listed as attractions, i hope the next time i'm searching i won't find a cemetery as an attraction spot.

I had heard of the Jeevanjee Gardens before but had never taken the time to locate it. I always knew it is right inside the city towards the end of Moi Avenue. I had passed there severally, but had never noticed it. Then one evening, weeks ago, here I am rushing to pick an item I bought online. I find myself crossing this little garden, where people sit. It had rained the night before, so it is quite wet.

There is nothing worth mentioning here except the garden is in the city center and is a cool place you can rest on a hot day.
There is a metal statue of Mr. Jeevanjee, the colonial-era Indian after whom the garden is named. I don't know what he did to deserve this piece of land after his name. I don't want want to Google either. Let it be.

If you want to be robbed, mugged, and more just spend 30 minutes in Jeevanjee, as from 18:00. I dont think you will survive an hours if you are too fancy before you are kidbapped, drugged and more.
Just show off anything seen as worth money. Mobile phones, rings, I sat completely at the entrance (completely covered and watched, snatch thieves, street urchins, glue sniffers, Miraa chewers, Wah. Shivers. You dont want to be there,

Jeevanjee Gardens is located in Central Business District of Nairobi, just on the start of Moi Avenue. It is centrally located in the heart of city. It is small park of 5 Acres. The land for the park was donated to the municipal government by a philanthropist Ali Bhai Mullah Jeeavnjee in 1906. His statue is fixed in the center of the recreational park which is a serene and relaxing place decorated with classical sculptures, shady trees and artistic benches. Its ideal location in the center of the city has made it vulnerable to various adventurists who want to construct multi-storey plazas, business centers, markets, parking lots, theatres, etc. Many attempts have been made in recent past to replace this park with some commercial building but each time the plans were foiled by activists like Zarina Patel, granddaughter of Jeevanjee.
The entry to the Park is free. It is one of the best places to see the local culture as people from all walks of life gather here, enjoy the shade of dense trees, discuss topics of mutual interest, sing cultural songs and play board/card games. In a way Park serves as People’s Parliament. It is a good refuge from the noise and hustle bustle of the surrounding business quarters.

This is located in the city center, very close to Kenya Comfort hotel and other fast food restaurants. It has recently been renovated and have paved walking paths, modern toilets where you pay a small fee to use, and now some very good green gardens. However, note that it may not be very relaxing at around noon since most of the city/ street preachers flock into this park to preach. A good place to relax.

There is nothing attractive about these gardens. They are just a dreary, dusty and dirty small park in the inner city. Lots of people just hanging out, or sleeping rough. Definitely no tourist attraction.

It is a nice place for a short sit down and look around in the middle of the busy city, during daytime.
