A bit of the bright side of colonial history. The farm that the Danish author of the famed memoir Out of Africa lived on from 1917 to 1931 is now preserved as a museum. Much of the 1985 Oscar-winning movie adaptation was shot on the grounds. A tour of the house is an intimate experience — in one corner is... More

For some reason I was expecting more...not sure why, but I just was. Maybe it was the knowledgable but rushed tour, or maybe there just was not much to it, but the museum was just ok. If you are looking for something to do to kill time, I say go for it. Nothing to go out of your way for... More

A must see simply because of her contribution she made during the time she lived in Nairobi. The museum show cases her life there at the time and makes the film 'Out of Africa' become more of a documentary than just another story. There is a tree that is over 100 years old that draws your attention and you feel... More

An unexpectedly interesting visit. A very well maintained museum with Blixen's memorabilia. By itself the house is a beautiful building of excellent architecture, functional setup and lavish gardens. All the furniture, paintings, photos, agricultural tools, and other items provide an insight of her personal life and the plantation she took care of during her residence there; Everything is very well... Having seen the movie Out of Africa this visit was high on our list and we were not disappointed. We were a group of seven and we were met by a young volunteer university student who knew everything about the house and of course Karen Blixen. It was so interesting and hearing the effect Africa had on Karen Blixen and... More

Set in some beautiful surroundings its worth visiting, our visit took place on a sunny afternoon which made it more of a pleasure, to take in the history of this wonderful woman. Its only a short ride out of the (mad ,crazy busy) centre of Nairobi but worth a visit.

I must say I learned a lot from this museum, the guides are very welcoming and have all the answers to your questions, it's located in Karen and very near the city center. It's worth a visit if you are in Nairobi

Small museum. Don't expect too much about the house but the guides are marvellous. I've been so many times and the explanation takes you to the time when Karen Blixen was living in Nairobi.
