The Karura Forest Reserve is an urban upland forest on the outskirts of Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. This remarkable geographical location and natural resource is one of the largest gazetted forests in the world fully within a city limits. It covers an area of about 1,000 ha (2,500 ac) and today is a shining example of how country-based corporate social responsibility and individual philanthropy can serve to secure and protect a country's natural resources. The forest offers eco-friendly opportunities for Kenyans and visitors to enjoy a leafy green respite from the hustle and bustle of the city to walk, to jog, or simply to sit quietly and experience the serenity of nature in all its diversity.

This is a wonderful asset to have around Nairobi. Idle to walk, run, cycle etc. with good routes, though not always well mapped out. Is well shaded on a sunny day but could be and is very slippy on wet rainy days, so be careful. There are areas to take picnics or play on the lawn if you fancy lounging... More

The forest is so green! Make sure you ride their bikes on their trail. Or an evening run. Or even a walk. The waterfall however is not wheelchair accessible.

Karuri forest has the most beautiful picnic spots with all the amenities. The washrooms are immaculate. Ample no of benches to sit on and swings, slides etc for the children to play. Lots of squirrels and dikdiks around. Lovely walks with amazing array of butterflies. All in all the most relaxing place to be in.

Karura Forest is a delight for those who live in Nairobi and wanted a weekend in the nature without lengthy driving. The cycling track is very well designed and can be challenging in some parts, offering a good workout in beautiful surroundings of bushes and waterfalls. Tips for enjoying the Karura forest to the maximum: - Bike rental shop has... More

We were here on a sunny day and the trees provided lots of shade. The paths are well marked and wide. Although the forrest is in the city, it feels like you're miles away from city life. The waterfall is very pretty and all along the walk we were accompanied by beautiful butterflies.

The forest has 2 entrances but the Limuru Road entrance is nicer because the shaded (trees) are on the routes from that entrance, the other entrance (forgot the name) requires quite a lengthy walk in the sun before you get to the waterfall and caves. Or maybe I just like walking under a shaded canopy that just feels more poetic... More

Karura forest is a piece of heaven on the outer parts of the city. There are numerous paths for hikers. The trees are beautiful, best of all is the tranquil silence once can get to think while walking in the forest. The small waterfall along the river is great to see and to take photos, anyone who hasn't been should... More

Limuru rd entrance or Kiambu rd entrance are an option. Great place to just unwind. Either you want to have a walk, Run, Cycle, take the dogs for a walk. This... More
