The Karura Forest Reserve is an urban upland forest on the outskirts of Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. This remarkable geographical location and natural resource is one of the largest gazetted forests in the world fully within a city limits. It covers an area of about 1,000 ha (2,500 ac) and today is a shining example of how country-based corporate social responsibility and individual philanthropy can serve to secure and protect a country's natural resources. The forest offers eco-friendly opportunities for Kenyans and visitors to enjoy a leafy green respite from the hustle and bustle of the city to walk, to jog, or simply to sit quietly and experience the serenity of nature in all its diversity.

200 KS for residents and 600 KS for tourists. I think I might have taken a bad entrance to start off with, my first few hiking minutes were uneventful. But as I progressed into the forest things got more interesting, with waterfalls and caves and lakes...saw some monkeys and the trails were pretty cool as well. It's also pretty close... More

This forest is about 15 kms from Nairobi CBD area. The walking trails are well laid and a great place for 2 to 3 hours enjoying the nature.

I stumbled upon an article on a magazine about the outdoor thrills that the Karura Forest Offered and decided to try it out with a couple of friends. The Forest is on the outskirts of Nairobi City, about 5-10 Minutes drive. Karura offers a tranquil setting perfect afternoon for jogging walking or cycling. There are well marked pathways through the... More

After a late breakfast we went to Karura Forest. With plenty of parking and off loaded and just went for it. Easy as pie. Followed the instructions along the way and stepped out of the city into an oasis of nature-sounds and scents of deep forest. Even though there were several cars parked there we hardly met anyone. The odd... More

If you want to have a quiet time a bit away from the big city with all its people and traffic jams, Karura forest in Gigiri is the perfect place. A fenced forest with wildlife, running and biking paths, a stream and waterfall, caves and many tree species is the perfect place to get away from it all. And if... More

The history and stories associated with karura makes it better and worth a visit. This is one place I have come to love within Nairobi with well marked trails for cycling, jogging and even if you want to just walk in a forest environment do you have a dog and wish to take it for a walk? Karura is the... More

Awesome place to go and relax especially away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The picnic area is awesome, the lawns are well maintained and with a good book and a glass of wine...it sure is a chilled way to kill a long Saturday Afternoon. Alternatively you could jog or cycle and relieve some steam.

As a family of four, we simply love going hiking, bicycling, wandering in the green luxurious forest of Karura. On week ends, the place often has events such as sporting or concerts or even kids activities. Recommanded for families, couples, with friends or even solo as you will meet many different people loving nature, just like you.

Nairobi can be described as grey, dirty or smoggy... But Karura Forest is for sure one of the nicest "getaways" within city limits. It is a forest, so expect mud during rainy days. Whether you go for a jog, a bike ride or a leisurely stroll, you will enjoy yourself.
