We did a 5 day trek up Mt Kenya with Adventure Kenya going up the Sirimon route and down the Chogoria route. We were very happy with our experience with Adventure Kenya Safaris. Chris and Mary in the office were very responsive to our emails to organise the tour before hand. We had an excellent main guide, Wilson, who is very experienced, having been guiding up the mountain for many years. Our porter/guide Sammy who lead us on some of the routes was also very good - friendly and knowledgeable. There was a second porter, Samwell and cook, Moses, all of whom were cheerful and made us feel welcome.

You can do the trip in 4 days, but we were glad to have the extra aclimitisation day on the 3rd day before going up, you just do a short hike that day but if you are at all worried about altitude effects it is better, as I had a headache the night before and think it would have been much more difficult to do the summit without aclimitising. Summit day is long (set off at 3am, arrive at sunrise at 6 and then another 9 hours after that) but very much worth it, with wonderful views and sense of achievement. There is also great scenery on the way down on the Chogoria route. We stayed in the huts along the way, which are mostly bunk beds, quite basic/cold except for the final bandas which are relative luxury, but all part of the experience.

There were just two of us with our guides and originally we wanted to see if we could join up with other travellers in one group, which wasn't possible in the end due to dates, but the huts were quite full with others doing the same route so it feels like you are sharing the experience/challenge with others. Overall the trip was very well organised. Do not skimp on getting a hat and warm gloves as it is very cold at the top on summit day! Our guide got them for us, along with sleeping bags, at no extra price.

The trip climbing Mt. Kenya was incredible. This company has it all; our driver, Gabriel, was so professional and we learned so much from him. Our guide, Wilson, along with his fabulous crew is the very best. Chris helped us through the entire process and made sure we were safe and happy. I give my highest recommendation to Adventure Kenya Safaris.

You don't go to the top of mountain , somebody guide and take you there ..... and thats what Adventure Kenya Safaris did to me .... Climbing Kilimanjaro was not an easy task for me because i am a full time desk employee and not exposed to mountains much ... But Chris whom i contacted had helped me a lot right from preparing me to taking me to the summit and then taking me to the jungles of Masai Mara .... I can't recommend any other company and person more for Kenya and Tanzania adventure , be it Nairobi tour , Masai Mara or Kili .... very economical , value for money and very genuine people and now my friend ... if life give me a chance i will trek either Meru or Kenya with them again ..... All the support member for trek and safari were very nice , food was awesome ..... Oh i miss my trek and Africa .....

Hi guys i just climbed mount Kilimanjaro /Uhuru peak-the real top of the mountain/ just a few weeks ago.I did it on the Machame route for 6 days. I booked it through a kenyan tour operator Adventure Kenya Safaris and cost me 1250 USD incl transfer from nairobi one night before and one night after the climb. The most important thing i have to say is that a lot of people go to Kilimanjaro thinking that it is a walk in the park which it is in a way ,but remember that it is still quite high so the altitude could ruin your plans to step on the top. My ADVICE IS DO IT IN MORE THAT 6 DAYS .Allow your body enough time to get used to the altitude. Every single hiker i saw on the mountain suffered in one way or another from AMS.-shortness of breath,headache- oh i had the worst headaches in my life there. The first night at 3000 m was ok ,but on the following day when we had to camp at 3900m i started to feel a headache which became worse on the next day when we went up to 4600m and back to 3900m At one point i was thinking to either extend my stay on the mountain so i could aclimate better or just to go down since i was feeling very bad. Not only the mountain sickness, but the weather which was quite cold at night almost put me down,i got some flu like sympthoms, diarrhea ,exhaustion etc. at one point i almost gave up but then i found some last piece of motivation and strenght and pushed myself to the very top. The climb on the last day was horrible.you feel like a zombie you just walk ,you do not really enjoy such a wonderful view or whatsoever you just put your foot infront of the other and keep going. It was very TOUGH. I climbed Mt blanc 2 months ago which was very tiring as well ,but The altitude in Kilimanjaro was tougher for my body. And adding the sleeping in tents, smelly toilets ,tastless food, cold damp weather ,it is simply not for everyone. I am very glad i made it to the top but i dont think i could recommend it as a great experience,as MT Blanc for instance. The only good thing is the pride of conquerring the highest peak in africa. For the rest i would not go there again. It is just a hike at high altitude which mind you is a serious undertaking ,so dont go ther eif you are not highly motivated and physically and mentally prepared.. I met so many people that did not make it to the very top that i was surprised by the law success rate. For the rest the porters carry your luggage, they cook for you put up your tents etc so they make it actually quite easy. The tips are 5 usd per porter per day on average 10usd for the guides. We were a group of 2 and we had one guide and one assistant quide = 4 porters 1 cook and 1 waiter-porter. Some af the guides were carrying the backpacks of there customers on teh summit day, others were supporting the clients by holding them or pushing them up etc.
In a few words ,there is nothing complicated from a technical point of view on most of the Kilimanjaro routes ,but the altitude is quite a serious thing so do not underestimate it. If you do not have a good altitude acclimatisation do the hike in 7, 8 or even more days in order to increase your chances and enjoy the hike more. Good luck!

A fantastic and complex trip organized by Chris without a glitch! My friends climbed Mount Kenya while my daughter and I went to Mombasa. Later we joined each other for a safari through Masai Mara. Ben was an excellent guide, and we were left with unforgettable memories of the wildlife and the Masai people. Next Chris provided us with a guide, Gabriel, as we spent a day in a slum of Nairobi, Mathare, while we worked with a non-profit. Gabriel was essential to feeling comfortable in a very foreign environment, and his help was much appreciated. Chris even invited us to his house for a traditional Kenyan meal with his family, which was a highlight of a trip filled with highlights. We will be using Chris again when we travel to Nairobi.

I did a combined tour starting with 3 days Masai Mara. Driver/guide Albert was very pleasant, a skilled driver (very important) and knowledgeable in the park and wildlife. Keen on giving us great sightings we saw many animals incl migration of wildebeest and the big five. It was great value for money, with decent tented camp, good food and each day a game drive, arriving as far as the Mara river the 2nd day
After the safari, the next day with guide Wilson, 2nd guide Antony and cook Moses we went to do Mt Kenya, Sirimon in and Chogoria out, incl.1.acclimatisation day. This was fantastic. Wilson is a friendly, skilled guide with good pace. Antony is a great organizer and guide too and Moses a great cook. Together they made me reach the top of Lenana peak. Lovely sunrise above the clouds, specatcular scenery. If you have chance take this extra day and use Chogoria route out, Gorges valley is breathtaking. Will be back some next time!
Thanks all for this adventure. I recommend Chris and this company for its value for money and also for the flexibility as without much ado I could switch the two around, due to bad weather at Mt Kenya, which was a great choice.

A fantastic trip with my friend from the UK. Wilson was a good safe guide who successfully took us to the summit. Anthony was a great porter and waiter who couldn’t do enough to help us and always with a smile. Moses cooked amazing food. Chris is very organised. Always responded quickly to emails and was helpful prior to the trip. A totally reliable company to book a Mt Kenya trip with. Chris made us a fantastic free photo book at the end with our photos which is a super memory of out time on Mt Kenya. Thank you very much to Adventure Kenya Safaris.

In short: great company, everything went fine, we made it up to both summits and had really awesome guides and phantastic cooks.I made the 14 days hiking tour, Mt. Kenia and Kilimandjaro, starting in Nairobi. Our group was only constiting of two people, and we met together in the hotel. The Hotel Kenya Comfort Hotel in Nairobi is located very central and you have all shopping possibilities and restaurants just around the corner. Just make sure not to have a room direct in front of the pub on the other side of the street. The rooms are ok, all clean but simple, it's a 2 star hotel, so don't expect too much, hot shower (really, really the best thing you can after the summit climbing is taking a long hot shower) , the breakfast buffet ist really nice and the people are very friendly and helpful. The hikes in Kenia and Tanzania were just so phantastic, great guides, cooks and porters. I really loved it. Everything was well organized, the food was the best and the tents and sleeping bags were warm enough and good. The guides Wil take care of you not to dehydrate and make sure that you drink enough and get enough to eat. The transfer after Mt. Kenia, from Nairobi to Moshi for Kilimandjaro was really long with the public bus, but after a long transfer of nearly long 9 hours, we made it to the hotel. Thank you for everything. I enjoyed my trip a lot and made some great pictures. Thanks especially to Chris for the organisation. I would book a tour again.Philipp
