About
The Karnak Sound and Light Show highlights the dramatic history of ancient Thebes. The show narrates the achievements of some great Pharaohs, with poetic descriptions of the ancient treasures. As visitors walk through the complex, the pharaohs arise to tell the story of their interesting lives, as haunting music mysteriously flows through this ancient city. Ancient and poetic voices tell the visitors about the birth of Karnak temple and the heroic achievements of the pharaohs and the god Amun. It is an enchanting and supernatural experience to listen to sound effects and gaze at the magnificent ruins illuminated during the well-presented show.

Attending the Arabic show was a mess when you attend such a show with about more than 500 person and for sure you can't see or hear anything.
They had to make every show with a maximum number of persons so that everyone can enjoy the show.
Unfortunately i was not able to continue the show with all this crowded around and i left it after 15 min. from its beginning.

Sound & Light show official
I would never recommend the light show to anyone. This is overpriced for what you get and the light show is very basic.
While I can give points for the story of Egypt history and great sound, the light show is very basic. You do not have time to really enjoy the beauty of architecture in the night as the light is one for less than 10 seconds. Where they keep it longer is not for something important... and the only interesting lighting set is at the lake when the arrangement will mirror the site in the water.
Prices for adult:
Light show 300 Egyptian lira (aprox 1h)
Day visit 200 Egyptian lira (open until 5 pm most days)
Be aware to take coins or Egyptian lira if you need toilet (€1 or 20 Egyptian lira)
During the English show they give walkie talkies to people not understanding English so not sure why they do not do this during Arabic show.
Times for shows
6 pm Arabic
7 pm General English
8 pm Arabic
9 pm General English

Huge disappointment: the lights are off!
After a tremendous tour of Aswan and Luxor, this show was a great disappointment. We visited in late October 2021 and there is a push right now at the two Temples to finish work before the big re-opening of the sites. This light show has suffered as a consequence, and most of the lights and all of the lasers were simply unplugged. Seeing the temple at night was of course extraordinary, and there were some dramatic lights on the architecture, but this was certainly not worth the price we paid. The final part of the show we sat on bleachers overlooking the great pool, which was dark the entire time, with one out of focus projector running and no lasers. The sound portion is a pompous, RP British narration in archaic language with historical inaccuracies that lost our interest quickly. Basically we listened to John Gielgud-types yammer about the Awesome Powers of the Ancient Pharaohs while looking at feral dogs frolic around a dark, trash- filled pond. Needless to say, no one clapped at the end. We told our guide about the state of things and he was surprised and appalled. Save your money and take a horse cart around the city to look at how contemporary people live, or prepare yourself for a disappointing show but some great nighttime photo ops. Maybe after the dedication in November they will restore the lasers and projectors, but do yourself a favor and ask about the state of the show first.

The sound and life show at Karnak temple an inspiring piece of theater that provides information into the building of Karnak temple and what brought about the dedication to the unseen god Amun. It was a clear winter's night which turned out to be the coldest night in Luxor's recorded history. The soundtrack and the visuals to the show were at times difficult to understand. We had to look around a lot to see what was being lit up. The best part of the show was at the end of the program when seated on the stands gazing across the sacred lake. I would suggest that anyone purchase the DVD of the show as it is very well done and has better colors than the actual show, plus it helps to figure out what you may have missed from the show.

Don’t go. It’s not worth it. The audio in the temple is poor. Way too much reverberation.
Some of the lights were malfunctioning.
About 30% of the attendees did not clap upon completion.
Story line is not interesting.
See if free from the road that runs parallel to the temple.

We learned about this on-line, looking for something to do in Luxor at night. We asked the hotel concierge about taxi cost, and our driver agreed on a round-trip price.
The audience walks through Karnak Temple to a combination of dramatic lighting, epic music, and well-written narration. It takes you on impressive and entertaining walk back in time!

Booked the arabic show on the website at 7 pm through the website, then when we went there we found it is the French show not the Arabic one. The ticket office there would not refund us the tickets and if we wanted to attend the English show instead we had to book a new ticket which was almost triple the price of the Arabic show!! We contacted the website and the phone number and no one replied to us and we didn't receive a refund till now.

Just to be clear, I just reviewing the light show. The Karnak Temple in day is the best thing in Luxor. However, the light show is a disappointment. Just a bunch of dancing lights repeating themselves, with a loud and very dramatic 1950's style commentary, which does not tell you much. Please avoid.

What a waste of 300 Egyptian pounds! This 1.5 hour sound and light show was the worst I have ever seen. The sound track is completely incoherent, featuring supposedly famous actors reciting grandiose lines that seemed laughable and impossible to follow. I literally learned nothing about the history of this magnificent site and was very bored. The lighting was also feeble. Just a few variations of lights (often repeating themselves) shone onto various parts of the temple. And to make things worse much of the show is delivered at various points (so you stand for at least half an hour) and move through the site with poorly lit uneven paths. Don’t bother is my advice. My pictures look nice…but the show is a waste of time and money. It feels like it was designed in the 1960’s and hasn’t changed since.

The best part of the the entire show was walking through the Karnak Temple at night and having certain parts illuminated in a dramatic fashion. The show itself was rather dated and unimpressive. I just do not think it was worth the admission price.

How early before the show should we plan to arrive?
Written October 4, 2019
Ten minutes at most, first part is whilst walking around so your standing and listening. Only at the end are you sitting by the lake and there are ample seats so everyone is able to see. Hope you enjoy.

Hi, did you avail of tours to get here at night, or did you just buy the show tickets only? How much is it for ticket only? I was thinking of just taking the taxi to go there and buy tickets at the gate. What time does the English show start? Thanks.

What is the cost to attend the Pyramids sound & light show per adult?
Written May 3, 2018
Hi! We're planning to attend the Karnak Sound and Light show on Thursday, 8th of Feb (3 days from now) Where do you suggest we buy the tickets? We're worried that they may be sold out if we wait till 8th to buy them once we reach Luxor. We have only one (8th Feb) evening in Luxor. The website i found online called soundandlight . com sells tickets at 17.5 USD each. Is that ok? What would you recommend?

What's the cost? Are there discount tickets available?
Written January 29, 2015
Hi, the cost for the ticket is 100 Egyptian pounds/person (Nov 2014) if you buy it at the gate. There were only 2 of us so no discounts but the official website says that if you have a group of 15 people there is a free ticket or if it's your birthday. Definitely worth it.
