Watching me take pictures of this attraction while we were boating from one attraction to another in the Nile River, my boatman moved the boat a little closer to it. I took several pictures here before proceeding to our next attraction.
It is not open to the public, can only viewed from a boat or a felucca.

Like most of Egyptian necropolias and mausoleums along the Nile it is located on the west bank. It is visible from afar. We have seen the Mausoleum of Aga Khan during our felucca sail and the guide elaborated on the lovely love story of Aga Khan and his wife.
Due to his poor health Aga Khan was adviced to travel to Aswan where he decided to stay, building his house and the Mausoleum.

Sadly you are not allowed to visit the Mauseleum itself. We were told this was due to the disrespect shown by tourists when it was open to the public and I have no qualms with that. Some tourists can be spectacularly disrespectul.
However, there is a beach with the most intensly coloured bright yellow sand I've ever seen some distance to the north of the Mauseleum on the Nile.
Our journey in a small riverboat to the village visited the islands showing us the local wildlife, and stopped at the beach and the Mauseleum was clearly visible atop the hill from the beach. I believe that is as close as you are allowed these days.

This country is full of relics on the banks of the Nile River and much remains to be discovered. The Aga Khan Mausoleum is a pink granite building with beautiful architecture. You can reach it by boat or felucca.

While sailing the Nile on our Felucca for part of a day we came across the Agha Khan Mausoleum on the West Bank of the Nile. A picture opportunity that should be missed as you pass by. There were also tombs of the nobles.

a conspicuous landmark on the West bank of the Nile, the Aga Khan Mausoleum was closed by the Begum, his widow, years ago, due to the litter left by the crowds of visitors, who obviously lacked respect and ignored that this is a grave, and that the Ismaelians are a very tolerant, benevolent branch of Islam

We found it to be rather steep whilst heading to the Mausoleun of Aga Khan, but were very interested in the history of what made Aga Khan love that spot so much that, even with all his wealth, that's the spot where he wanted to live and die.

This mausoleum is perched high above the Nile opposite the Aswan side of the river. As you walk up the long pathway to the top of the riverbank you pass the winter home that was used by the Begum Aga Khan. The tomb is glistening white and beautiful. Well worth the walk. Of interest is the view out into the desert beyond the mausoleum. Miles and miles of nothing, but somehow very beautiful.

I was in Aswan last week(27th & 28th July),i was told by one of the locals that the Aga Khan's Mausoleum was closed 15 years ago because someone set a fire in there and there were no plans to reopen it.How true this is i don't know but it's a shame,me and my husband were in Aswan in 1991 and went inside the Mausoleum and i remember thinking what a beautiful building it was, what a waste,it was a big tourist attraction.
