Menkaure was the son of Khafre and the grandson of Khufu. About 213 ft (65 m) tall, Menkaure’s pyramid is the smallest in the family trio. It was built in the 4th dynasty, sometime around 2510 BC. We got our best views on a sunset ATV tour from the desert side. Good thing, because in the morning it was so hazy, we could barely see Menkaure’s pyramid in the distance.

This is the smallest of the 3 great pyramids at Giza and is located just far enough away from the other 2 so that the crowds are usually considerably less. Of course there are still plenty of touts and camel hustlers, but that is to be expected throughout the area. Still a very impressive example of ancient Egyptian architecture.

Per my Tour Guide, there are 9 pyramids located in Giza, this is one of the 9. It is inot as famous as the first big ones, the Khufu and Khafre Pyramids. It is also smaller and less photogenic.

We briefly walked around it, took some photos and moved on.

Menkaureus is the smallest of the three Pyramids of Giza, but of equal importance and beauty. The whole forms a magnificent vision. It's surreal to be there, in front of them. The guides take tourists to a photo spot including the 3 pyramids. Unmissable!

It is the smallest of the "family pyramids" and the death of the ruler preceded the completion. It was constructed of limestone and Aswan granite. The interior was not open during our trip.
in 12th century Saladin's son and the Sultan of Egypt attempted to destroy and demolish the pyramid but it proofed to be impossible. The vertical gash at its northern face is a reminder of the sultan's effort.

The Pyramid of Menkaure is the smallest of the three main great pyramids of Giza and thought to have been built for Fourth Dynasty Egyptian Pharaoh, Menkaure.

It’s one of the oddest looking to There’s a large vertical “gash” above the entrance due to an attempt to demolish the pyramid by the second Ayyubid Sultan of Egypt, Al-Malik al-Aziz Uthman ibn Salah ad-Din Yusuf.

I paid an extra fee to enter the tomb just so that I can say I entered one of the pyramids. To be honest, it’s a waste of money as there’s nothing to see, not even wall decorations. Like the nearby Pyramid of Khufu, this tomb is an amazing feat of engineering and it’s worth seeing, though not to enter.

My boyfriend and I wanted to go into one of the pyramids and our guide suggested this one. The reason being that this is the cheapest, and all the pyramids look the same in the inside anyway. Keep in mind you can't take a camera inside, so leave it with your guide. If you're feeling naughty you can bring in your camera phone and take pictures like we did.

Pyramid of Menkaure (son of Krafre and 6th pharaoh of the 4th dynasty) is the smallest of the pyramids at the Giza plateau. With an original height of 65.5 metres; It now stands at 61 m tall with a base of 108.5 m. Ṣalāḥ ad-Dīn Yūsuf ibn Ayyūb's (Saladin) son al-Malek al-Aziz Othman ben Yusuf tried to demolish the pyramids starting with Menkaure's at the end of the twelfth century. After eights months work and far from accomplishing their misbegotten task, they, they merely spoiled the pyramid by leaving a large vertical gash in its north face which is its key identifying feature. Not being as large as his father’s (Krafre), grandfather’s (Khufu) or great-grandfather’s (Sneferu) pyramid, Menkaure’s pyramid is easy to walk around. Due to its size, this pyramid allows for a nice photograph with it in the background.

Tip:
If you are not travelling in a large group, find someone speaking the same language as you. My wife and I were lucky to come across an English couple who were more than willing to take turns taking photographs of each other in front of Menkaure’s pyramid.

I went inside this pyramid, not an experience I would care to repeat but I am glad I did it now. Very steep up and down inside, unless you are a regular hill walker do not attempt! The Queens pyramids however are easy, and well worth the effort.
