I was staying across the street at the Great Pyramid Inn and had decided before arriving to go and see the show on my first day however, a 22 hour flight put paid to that idea. The next day after visiting Dahshur, Saqaarra, Memphis and Giza plateau, I decided to attend the show. Thankfully I rugged up prior to crossing the street. As it was winter, there were plenty of seats at the first show which was in English; so I sat as close to the front as I could.
The show consists of the Great sphinx retelling the history of the Giza plateau dealing with the god kings of the forth dynasty in the first half. A general history thereafter in the second half features later pharaohs, Julius Caesar and Napoleon.
I had seen the show from my hotel, but the experience of being close to the show outweighed the cold of the night. To see these mighty pyramids lit up is inspiring.
Tips for winter:
Wrap up in warm clothing especially if there is a wind blowing
Have a hot drink before coming and one straight after
Sit as close to the front as you can

Our guide took us the the Sound & Light show almost one hour early. Although we were not able to sit in the audience for the Arab language show at 6 pm, we were able to see enough of the show from the distant seating area to understand how much or how little lighting was used at different times of the show which lasts about 45 minutes. Once we were allowed in for the 7 pm show, seating was not a problem. As I was interested in photography, I elected to roam around especially on the right side, where there is a wide outside aisle. The sound show provided a good overview of history. Different pyramids, the Sphinx and the wall in front were lit up in synch with the story. The finale at the end was spectacular. I was pleased with the photo results, taken hand held with an ISO of 10,000. It was an excellent way to start our visit to Cairo, as we then saw the Sphinx and the pyramids up close the very next morning!

To arrive in Egypt and see the pyramids lit up at night with sound and music was daunting. We took the VIP seats so we could have unobstructed views and take great photos. They were hardly any more money and we sat first row. February was cold at night so dress warmly. You can also rent blankets.
So many mediocre reviews here saying that it was not worth the money and also claiming that it was boring. I totally disagree. Seeing the pyramids during the day is a must but to get the added perspective of the pyramids and the Sphinx being highlighted by beautiful colors at night is extraordinary.

Just dreadful.
Out dated technology, abysmal laser projections, more lasers circa 1980 than 21st century. The same with projections. Dated technology.
Audio quality to cringe over. Unpleasantly loud and very distorted. Dreadfully poor quality.
Lighting REALLY disappointing. In fact for anyone who has been to a headliner rock concert in the last ten years .......embarrassing!!
I think the script was written in the 1970s and is really over acted.
Tourism Egypt needs to make sure this show is dragged into the 21st century.
We really thought it was a complete and utter waste of our time and considering how many people visit Cairo a major missed opportunity for Egyptian tourism.

This was a terrible disappointment. A tourist trap to avoid. The light show itself was underwhelming, and the story telling also left much to be desired. An horrible scrum to get in got things off to a bad start and was typical of the badly organized show. Perhaps it would have wowed in the 80s but not now.

Our group had an opportunity to see the Sphinx and Pyramids illuminated while we were eating dinner at Abou Shakra Restaurant. We didn’t actually attend the Sound and Light show so I can’t speak to it’s overall value. But I can tell you that seeing these world-famous monuments bathed in colorful lights is exciting!

This was an optional extra on our Bunnik Tour but I'm so glad we did it. We were VIPs from our Bunnik Tour and this gave us fantastic front row seats. At night time the pyramids take on a magical quality and the colourful lights, and story telling were simply mesmerising. The Sphinx is illuminated in such a way that is depicts exactly what it must have looked like in its glory days. This one is not to be missed.

This show has not been updated in a very long time. It was boring and the story was confused. With today's lighting technology it could be a fabulous show. The majority of our tour group were disappointed. This show must have made a lot of money in the years it has been running, and some of that should be invested in improving the seating, lighting, and updating the sound track.

Instead of paying 300le(oct 21 price), we went to rooftop restaurant across from the sphinx and saw the show for free. Of course food and beverage at these places is way overpriced, due to location. I still think it is a better deal and actually better view of the show. The audio is difficult to understand, speaker systems are old and scratchy. But the lighting effects on the pyramids is memorable. Bring up high on a rooftop is an excellent perspective. You don't need a tour for this, just take a cab or uber to sphinx and walk into any of the hotels nearby.

We paid 75USD per person and booked this through Memphis Tours. They picked us up and we were in the front row. Since we already had all the history heard just that morning, iterating the same thing and with whatever light and sound, didnt make it that appealing.
It was very very cold. They do sell blankets there for 5USD.
75USD also included dinner, but, it was in place I would never visit!
I would give this a miss!

Has anyone done the sound and light show with dinner. Looking forward to a local diner. Where did they take you for local dinner?
Written May 12, 2019
The simple answer is there is no dinner option available.have your dinner and come for the show or have dinner after the show. Cheers

It seems like most people say it was cool. What about the month of September?
Written March 28, 2019
What's "cool"? It differs for those from northern climes versus from the tropics...and I don't know from where you hail. Here's my advice: Take a light coat or sweater to the show. If it gets "cool" for you, put one on.

When did you go that it was cold at night? Is there a guide that can get 4 of us preferred seating?
Written March 24, 2018
We watched the light and sound show from rooftop of Great Pyramids Inn. It was November, and the breeze was cold. You need woolen during December and January in the evening.

Hi, is it safe and near enough to have a relaxing walk from Mena House to the venue of this Sound & Light Show? Can we just turn up an hour before the show and purchase tickets. What time is the English language show for Friday?
Written March 11, 2017
I am not to sure about the neighborhood, and I do not know if you can buy tickets on site - best is to go to the site for the show and ask
