Mohamed Abdelsalam tailored our tour to coptic Cairo on christmas day, and it was a life changing experience. He is very knowledgeable and answered all my questions with fact and folklore about Mar Guirguis, the footsteps of Jesus and helped me choose the most tasteful souvenirs for my friends to take home with love. We did not want the day to end, and he chose our traditional dinner at his highly recommended Abu ElSid restaurant, with coffee on a bridge over the Nile! Mohamed Abdelsalam also recommended my itinerary of a self guided tour of St Catherine monastery around Moses burning bush. Bonus: He is a very good photographer!

We went on a Coptic Cairo Tour and visited 3 churches, and Mohamed Abdelsalam also took us to an old souq called Fostat Souq to buy beautiful souvenirs, and also took us to the best Egyptian restaurant in Zamlek. Mohamed our guide amazingly helpful and friendly, answering all questions and telling us many many stories about every centimetre of the chruches we visited. He took amazing photos inside and outisde the churches. Our guide seemed very popular and well-respected and connected. Amazing connections & also he takes amazing photos! Mohamed is very well informed and professional, making sure everybody was involved and enjoying!! Thank you so much Mohamed - definitly recommend!!

We found Cairo Top Tours via an internet search and we are hoping our review will lead others to book with them as they were excellent (as we all know a blind internet search can really go anywhere). Originally we were thinking to do three separate trips but ultimately chose to string them together. I do not necessarily recommend that they be strung together, doing them separately/individually will be just as valuable. The team at Cairo Top Tours was responsive and we could tell they really took what we said into consideration when crafting our trip (MANY companies in Egypt will not do this, they will only do their predetermined itineraries). We found the best way to contact them was via the 'chat' function on their website and then via WhatsApp after our initial contact. El Fayoum/Medinat Madi/Wadi El Hitan (Valley of the Whales) - this was the first leg of our trip. We were picked up on time from our accommodation in Cairo and started the long drive toward El Fayoum. Our first stop was at Medinat Madi, a little visited site with remains of from the Middle Kingdom --> Greco-Roman times. The setting and the site itself were really wonderful. If you find yourself out this way make an effort to visit (we were the first visitors for three weeks). We liked visiting this site more than we liked the oasis itself, only staying long enough for lunch and to walk around a bit (that is all I'm going to say about the oasis). Keep an eye out for desert fox and owl when visiting as we were lucky enough to see both. This site requires a 4WD or motorbike to visit. Wadi El Hitan/Valley of the Whales - Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic. We wished we'd had more time here and could have stayed for sunset. We arrived late in the day and the on-site museum was closed. Our awesome guides arranged to have it opened for us and we are glad they did. While we didn't spend much time inside the museum it was definitely worth a look. Then out on the clearly marked trail to see the skeletal fossil remains in situ. Wow, remains/evidence that this was once a sea were EVERYWHERE. AND the landscape is absolutely stunning. Stunning stunning. We 100% could have spent more time here. Then we drove to Bahariya Oasis to spend the night. Just an FYI, food and bathroom breaks were always on hand throughout the tip as there is a lot of road for Kamil (our very good 'Cairo-style' driver - assertive driver - as is necessary in Egypt, especially in the cities) to cover. Our accommodation for the evening was clean and comfortable. To be honest I was so tired by the time we arrived and showered and went to bed so as to be fresh for the next day. In the morning we toured around a bit to see local hot springs and historical sites (note that at the time of our visit the Museum of the Golden Mummies was not open). Western Desert: Black Desert, Crystal Mountain and the White Desert - a perfect trip with a dream team. In Bahariya we transferred to a nice Land Cruiser with a local guide and chef (Mohamed, our amazing guide and Egyptologist was with us for the entire trip:) then drove out into the Western Desert to explore the variety of landscapes. At each stop we were told about the unique geological features and given time to wander on our own and take it in. We made numerous stops (not all nature, some historical as well), drove over sand dunes and ended our day with plenty of time to catch sunset in the White Desert while our team set up camp and prepared dinner. The guys brought anything we may need for a comfortable night in the desert. We chose to sleep under the starts instead of a tent as the weather was perfect (nice heavy blankets were provided). The food and the company were superb (We booked a private tour but enjoyed the company of our guides and chef. Also, we are vegan and the chef prepared delicious foods for us). In the morning we were given more time to wander around on our own while our team packed up the Land Cruiser. We got back on the road stopping at various rock formations on our way back toward Bahariya. We enjoyed a delicious home-cooked local meal at our chef's home before departing for El Minya. El Minya/Middle Egypt - Necropolis of Beni Hassan, Tell Al Amarna , Tuna Al Gebel and Zawiyyet Al Mayyiteen We arrived after sunset and our accommodation was perfectly comfortable and clean. Our guide Mohamed and driver Kamil took us to a local 'falafel' spot where we grabbed food to take back to our room as we had to work and we were tired. PS it was REALLY good... and no, we don't usually rave about falafel (it's more than falafel btw). We woke the next morning for a full day of touring the sites mentioned above. Just because I think it should not be a surprise I'm mentioning that we were never allowed out on our own in this region. As mentioned we were escorted by our driver and guide to grab dinner, but we also had a police escort for our day of sightseeing. We don't personally think this is necessary but, at least at the time, the Egyptian government felt it necessary. The cost for this is built into the cost of the tour. Personally we felt id drew attention to us but we didn't have a choice (we hold USA passports as an FYI). ALL of these sights are fantastic and absolutely worth adding to your itinerary if you have the time. This is our second trip to Egypt, and we are here for at least four months, this is not a region we previously visited with much more limited time, but again, suggest it if you want to get off the more trodden tourist trail and have extra time. We were the only tourists at any of the sites we visited on this day. If you really want to see every nook and cranny of these sites, I recommend staying an additional day. We visited all of these sites in one day AND drove back to Cairo after, very doable but staying another day if you have the time would be nice as well. Is Egypt safe? I mentioned a police escort... just to be clear, we have always felt very safe in Egypt and have not had any issues. I traveled here alone as a woman in 2016 and felt 100% safe by myself even. Cairo Top Tours: Most of our pre-trip correspondence was with Ahmed. He is very professional and helpful and helped craft a wonderful trip for us. Kamil was our driver and he is very good - driving in Egypt is some of the most wild on the planet... yes, more wild than India. Mohamed was AWESOME. What a good dude; super smart, super nice and genuinely wanted us to enjoy our trip. Price: Cairo Top Tours is not the cheapest company to book with but the quality is better than any budget company we have worked with in the past AND we got exactly what we asked for: trust me, this is not always the case. Many operators will say one thing and deliver another; Cairo Top Tours delivers what they say they will and will work with you to ensure the best experience possible. Because I believe in knowing all you can know, the car used for driving between destinations was not the most comfortable and you will be spending A LOT of time in the car between destinations. It is a fine car, but no bells or whistles (don't worry, there is AC). The Land Cruisers around El Fayoum are older - this is FINE, you don't spend much time in them. This is the way they are in this area. Cairo Top Tours didn't pick a cheaper option, this is the only option. And finally, the Land Cruiser for the White Desert was top-notch. I/we 100% recommend Cairo Top Tours - Did I mention that Mohamed is the nicest? So great. Thank you guys for making this trip a reality and for going out of your way to make sure we enjoyed ourselves.
