Clean place but you will pay 5 LE per pair of plastic sleeves to wear over your shoes before entering the holy mosque. Also be sure to have a long scarf for covering your shoulders and bust if you are wearing a top with straps or without sleeves. Sleeves to the elbows are fine.

A visit to the citadel is worth your time. I went in a very hot day in August, but I enjoyed it. The two mosques are very nice, the little museum of police is worth a quick pike.

One of the main attractions in Cairo - Mohamed Ali mosques is a beautiful building and when seen at night - it is quite impressive with the lights as it is set up on a hill. Well worth visiting. Recommended!

Muhamed Ali Mosque somehow reminded me about the Hagia Sophia temple from Istanbul. From Citadel you can have a wonderful view to Cairo. Also architecture of the mosque is amazing and its really worth to visit the place.

The place is perfect but the government didn't care about this historical place! very dirty walls, rust on all steel items. Buyers all around forcing you to buy silly items, policeman also asking bribe to allow you to take pictures for the Castle jail.
