Once known as the Roman stronghold of Babylon, Cairo’s oldest section is the ancient heart of the Coptic Christian community featuring five original churches, the first mosque built in Egypt and the oldest synagogue, all representing three of the major world religions.

It was a privilege to visit this ancient part of Cairo. We wandered along the narrow streets where people have wandered for thousands of years. We visited a Coptic church while mass was on and which was very special

Was probably a high spot of the tour. Something we knew almost nothing about. A hidden gem well worth a visit, clean well organised in old Cairo.

Was there just a few weeks ago. Lovely little church with some great mosaics and a lovely little gift shop of home made Christian items you won't see in any mosque. No matter what you're tour guide says.
