Mad og Hygge means food and coziness.

Korean-born, Danish-raised proprietor AK Salling teaches locals and travelers to cook Danish meals and baked goods at a small cooking studio in trendy Sinchon. The classes are in the evenings and weekends. On Thursday and Friday afternoons there are baked goods for sale during cafe hours. The space also serves as a dining room for a weekly community meal on Wednesday evenings. The community meals are just 15,000 won for a meal that usually consists of 3-4 dishes. I've attended two of these dinners, and enjoyed the food and company immensely. The first meal was meatloaf, potatoes, and green beans. The second visit was just a week later, prompted by this description on Facebook: "apple pork or in Danish: æbleflæsk. It is a dish with crispy pork baked in the oven with apples."

AK is easy-going and well organized so she can chat while she finishes up the meal. She's so friendly that she really recreates a home-like environment in the small studio decorated Scandinavian style.

The space can also be rented out and custom classes can be arranged by request. Adults and classes for adults with children are both available.

AK speaks Danish, English and Korean.

We really enjoyed AK's lesson on Saturday morning and learnt how to cook Scandinavian food.
Eventhough I'm not good at cooking, it was very relaxing and pleasant time!!
Looking forward to joining next class when I'm back to Korea.
オーブンがなくてもできるスカンジナビア料理を作りました。とても素敵な先生とおしゃべりしながらの楽しいレッスンでした。次回はベイキングにもトライしてみたいです。

I brought my Indonesian friend to this place because I wanted to introduce her to Danish food. AK is having "Madklub" at 7pm every Wednesday where people can make a reservation or just join in from the street. We were in total 7 people having the Danish dish: Korteletter i fad, wich is pork with vegetables - really delicious and totally Danish! We had a great time and I can only recommend this "Madklub" or a cooking class!! It's a great way to discover more about the Danish culture and food

I had the pleasure of visiting Mad & Hygge several times over the last few months and I can only warmly recommend that you check it out. You won't get closer to real Scandinavian atmosphere and food than at AK's excellent cooking studio, and you'll definitely leave with new ideas, inspiration and most likely new friends too.

Highly recommended!

As a dane and for anyone wanting to experience the scandinavian life style, Mad og Hygge is a great place to visit. The name says it all. You get to experience the meaning of the unique expression ‘Hygge’ first hand through cooking and baking together in great company. I had such a nice time visiting, and I highly recommend going.

The modern, warm environment of this studio made me feel right at home. Other friends who have visited have said it is like being in a friend's kitchen!!
AK's classes were fun, easy to understand, delicious and affordable!! I've made many of the recipes I learned here again! Highly recommended!

My favourite place for great discussions, interesting people, and heart-warming food. Every Wednesday host AK offers a home-made meal in her Danish style cozy studio. It feels like visiting a friend, which makes for very fascinating, sometimes funny, always welcome, and ever changing encounters with people of all walks of life, all sitting down together to have a friendly chat, eat typically Danish cuisine and learn about not only Danish but all kinds of cultures. Every time is different, but up until now I've always walked home with a satisfactory full stomach and a rosily warm feeling of all the impressions of the night.

Nice little, out of the way place good for couples and small groups to experience home cooked Danish meals. AK is a great host and will make sure the place is cozy or else she'll go absolutely mad.
