Neighborhood: Insadong
Nestled between Jongno and Samcheongdong, this small neighborhood offers a crash course in various aspects of Korean culture. Rows of shops display traditional Korean goods such as pottery and earthenware, crafts, fans, and more, making it a popular spot for souvenir shopping. The Ssamziegil shopping complex in particular has become a local institution for its unique spiral layout and the many boutique shops inside that sell handmade crafts and goods. This is the perfect neighborhood to sample a range of Korean dishes, with vegetarian Korean temple cuisine restaurants being a popular draw, but street food carts are just as famous. As a top tourist destination, crowds can swell, particularly on weekends, but you can find some rest and respite in one of the private art galleries or grab a cup of Korean tea in a tea house – many of which are located in beautifully renovated traditional Korean homes.

You can enjoy trick art and mazes. You can either go for one or both, but there are also combined tickets.
We went to see the trick art at home, and our elementary and middle school children had a great time.
It looks better in photos than it does in person.

The best part for me is the Alive cafe where you can seem like you are into a comics. No actual food of course.
Interesting place.

We decided to do this because of we got the Discovery Seoul Pass. It was tricky looking for this place using naver (google map does not work well in Korea). It was actually located in the same basement as Dynamic Maze.
There are a lot more interactive exhibits here than the typical trick art museum which sets it apart, with several mazes like the mirrors room (think Bruce Lee), dark room as examples.
We also got lucky as this place is very near a highly rated insadong dumpling restaurant that I also reviewed.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of reviewing The Alive Museum in Insa-dong. This is the largest 4D Art Museum in Korea, featuring tons of fun-artsy-stimulate-your-senses rooms where you can take pictures and truly enjoy yourself and just be a kid again. I was either smiling or uttering “와” and “대박” every few minutes! 👍😃😆. From trick art to artworks to media art there is so much to do! I must of taken over a hundred photos and half of the are with me in them, which is very surprising as I prefer being the photographer rather than being photographed - but this place is so fun and engaging, that you will be taking photos left and right, like me!🤩🤣😃 The Alive Museum is located in the basement next to the Dynamic Maze in the Daeil building in Insa-dong, just opposite of the Tapgol Park.
Thank you @alivemuseum_marketing for inviting me to review and for the vouchers. I had the inner child come out in me, and had a blast ❤️😃👍☺️

This place is incredible! If Im being completely honest, I enjoyed it much more than Trick eye museum. I felt this place had WAY more options and more illusions to view and take photos with.
As everyone says, NOT good for solo travelers as you need someone else taking your photos! Such cool illusions and I wish they had more of these places worldwide! Would definitely recommend to others.

It's fun inside, but only if you go together with someone else, or as a family or group of friends, not alone. Selfies are worthless.
Solo travelers could better spend their time elsewhere.

My children loved this place. The Alive Museum and Dynamic Maze. We got there as soon as it opened so didn't have to contend with crowds. I imagine my review may be different if we were there on a weekend or during a busy time. You have to place all belongings in a locker to complete the maze, but, it was so much fun. Brain teasers, crawling, climbing, memory games, dark tunnels...a lot of fun. The 3D pictures turned out well, though I couldn't always figure out the angle. Between the maze and the pictures, we spent about 1.5 hours here. Afterwards, the street food vendors were setting up and we were able to shop in Insadong.

It is not hard to find, from Insadong station walk almost till the end. We got voucher for Alive Museum & Dynamic Maze. You can take a lot photos in it, some of it comes with instruction and some don't (you have to use your creativity then!). It takes around 1-2 hours for us to explore everything.

If you have to make a choice between the Trick eye museum vs Alive Museum, always choose the Trick eye museum. (PS: Trick eye museum tickets also include the Ice Museum).
Perhaps only school children will enjoy the Alive Museum. Found most of the pictures too artificial-looking and the effects not particularly inspiring.

Hello! Thank you for your valuable comments.
In fact, there are differences between Alive Museum and Trickeye Museum.
Although we do not have area such as Ice Museum, but we have more various art installations about Media art, object art and interactive art etc.
We are the biggest illustration museum in Seoul which is popular and suitable for young & elderly, couples, family and friends which provide various 3D, 4D, interactive and wonderful experience to our visitors.
We update our art installations frequently. So we are looking forward to hearing your satisfactions when you visit our Museum again.
Thank you for our valuable comments again!

There were 6 of us. The one who enjoy the museum a lot was mom! We spent several hours inside laughing all the way through. I recommend you visit here with your friends or family, that will double or triple your hilarious that turns your ordinary day into wonderful memory. I have heard Alive Museum open several branches overseas, which is good for local people to enjoy these creative stuffs!

Is there parking for this museum? We will be traveling by car and would like to know where the best place to park would be. Thanks!
Written July 7, 2015
Yes, right behind the building is a large parking garage as well.

besides theme and genre, what is the difference between Insadong branch and N tower branch in term of size? Please response asap cause I will be there this weekend already, thx a lot :)
Written April 9, 2015
I am not sure about size but I don't think you will visit both while on holiday. If you are planning to visit the tower, it is convenient as you need to pay for the cable car ride to get to the tower. If you are not planning to visit the tower, then visit the one in Insadong.
