About ZenKimchi Korean Food Tours
We've shown Anthony Bourdain and Andrew Zimmern the best food in Seoul. Let us show you! ZenKimchi offers off-the-beaten-path Korean food tours for hardcore foodies. We have consulted for major TV shows, journalists, and corporations. We now share this experience to give culinary tourists the ultimate experience. We don't just give tours, we give you something to brag about to your friends. We are obsessed with the Korean dining scene, and we know the secret places that visitors want to try. Started as Korea's longest running Korean food blog in 2004, ZenKimchi has gotten recognition from The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Lonely Planet, The Washington Post, and more. We are one of the only tours in Seoul that accept single bookings. We are also great for groups, families, and couples.

Very good tour with Joe. Everything is well organized and clearly communicated beforehand. We enjoyed all the bits and pieces of history spread throughout as we walked around the Jongno neighbourhood. We definitely learned new things about the city and its history, even if we didn't get super scared (tough to do so when there's neon light everywhere). Joe was a really nice tour guide!

I enjoyed the entire hike. Shawn is knowledgeable about the folklore and legends connected to the area. He is an experienced tour guide that puts safety first. Shawn knows the less crowded trails, which made for a peaceful, quiet hike. I appreciate that he could tailor a hike to my interests; Shawn runs a tour that offers something for everyone. I highly recommend this tour to anyone in Korea that loves hiking and Korean history and folklore.

There's humor, there's (un-sanitized/un-popular) history stories, and folk knowledge. We walked for 2hours (extended version), yet it went extremly fast and no one in the tour looked tired when it was over. Granted, it might have something to do with the ceepy feeling from the last site pumping adrenaline. Im glad we went for the extended version! Do not expect long stories standing at one site, rather bits and pieces of different stories and at different locations every time....oh, never had trouble listening to the guide despite being almost 10 peeps? and at least 2 people where repeating the tour "we love it, he always adds new stuff". Also, we got the comic book: it has 3 stories I didn't heard during the tour nor, like the other stories he told, are part of my "Korean Folk Tales" book. Last cments: its a great way to meet people! And consider bringing a beer or two to stay hydrated 😉 (though perhaps check first with the guide the legality of it 😅)

It's legal (for now) to carry open containers in Seoul. Thank you for such a fun evening! I'm glad you could hear me. The secret is the diaphragm. Haha!

The Dark Side of Seoul Tour was enlightening, powerful, and peaked my interest into more of the history that really took place in Seoul. This was one of the most powerful tours I've been on in Seoul. It is jam packed with haunted detailed stories that gave me chills down my spine, literally! Shawn is an incredible tour guide, is very passionate with delivering information, and has a very ASMR voice that may put some visitors to sleep. A few times, I felt a presence beside me, and even heard what sounded like a woman crying in the distance beyond the temple when Shawn mentioned Korean shamanism. In my experience taking ghost tours previously in Canada, prior to COVID, I would not have expected there to be a tour held in South Korea. By far, the Dark Side of Seoul exceeded my expectations and the comic book, from the extended version of the tour, will be forever cherished and is one of a kind! I would highly recommend the Dark Side of Seoul Tour for anyone who wants to learn about the spirited side of the South Korean capital. You might even been able to spot some ghostly activity, if you're lucky!

After hearing so many good things about the Dark Side of Seoul Tours I decided to finally get up to Seoul and take one with Shawn. The tour was wonderful. Jam packed with lots of really interesting information and of course tons of creepy stories along the way. Shawn is very knowledgeable and is a great storyteller so it made for an extra fun experience. Luckily no ghosts on our tour (at least that I could see). I would highly recommend the tour to anyone either visiting Korea or living in Korea who want to learn more about Korean history and of course folklore. Also the podcast is really great so after hearing so many different ones it was nice to take a walk in some of the places mentioned.
