Enjoyable market

The usual fare you would expect from a market, food, clothing, souvenirs... Lots of foods to enjoy. We spent around 2hrs here just wandering and sampling.

Awesome place to choose whatever your soul desires. Got lots of small things that make a big difference daily. Moderate prices, kind people and bargains that you can make with shoppers. Overall a great experience.

It's a big shopping area but I find it mainly catered to the older crowd. There's some stalls selling souvenirs which is cheaper to the nearby Myeongdong shopping area. It's worth a visit if you're in the area.

It is a large market however it is also very easy to navigate. A tourist information is located not far away from the market entrance, where in you can get free market maps and ask away any inquiry with regards to the market on the personnel on duty. I also like that locals also frequented this Market, so in a... More

This location is quite close from Myeongdong, I can take a walk there. The place is offering cheap shopping for fashion, souvenirs, street food, etc. This place have 11 gates (if I'm not wrong) so please remember you're entrance gate or you can be lost inside the market

Good if you want to buy souvenirs for the price is cheapest here as compared to the other places we have visited (Myeoungdong, Gangnam, Sinchon, Nami Island, Everland, Subways to name a few). I also bought a very good quality bubble coat here from an old lady selling it in one of the stalls on the streets. However, there are... More

Keep your purse close while walking this crowded outdoor/indoor market where you can buy everything from underwear to rice cookers and everything else you can imagine, haggling all the while. Outdoors food is being cooked and sold and if the weather's bad you can go inside and down into a basement of endless stalls.

Cheap shopping. Still you can get to buy the same items at insasong and myeondong with the same price.

I really like to get inexpensive souvenirs since I have a rather large extended family and I haven’t found many places with decently priced souvenirs as of yet in South Korea. I sure found them here. Maddaemun market reminds me very much like a Chinese nightmarket without the multiple food vendors. Many of the stalls have the same material but... More

Staying in Myeongdong / Namdaemun

Neighborhood Profile
Myeongdong / Namdaemun
Arguably Seoul’s most famous neighborhood and undoubtedly one of its most popular, Myeongdong takes shopping and eating to new heights, with hundreds of shops, restaurants, and cafes all stacked on top of one another. The rise in popularity of Korean cosmetics, fashion, and more has made this area a must-see for visitors who come and marvel at Myeongdong’s often frenetic pace and energy. Lotte and Shinsaegae’s massive department stores are also popular draws for both Korean and luxury products. The department stores, just like Myeongdong’s streets, are crowded around the clock. Myeongdong’s many street food carts are also immensely popular for their inexpensive and quirky offerings (French-fry-encrusted corn dogs, anyone?). The neighborhood’s popularity, as well as its close proximity to other popular sights and neighborhoods, makes it one of Seoul’s most popular places to stay.
