They have English subtitle for some performance, foreigner’s academy and even discounted price for some performance for foreigners. Nice quality performances!

Whenever we travel, we like to watch a performance in the country’s National Theater. We were walking around and we saw the National Theater of Korea. We inquired if we could buy tickets for the night’s performance and we were happy that there was indeed a performance and tickets were available. My father in law didn’t allow us to purchase tickets. He told us that the performance would be all in Korean and we said that that would be ok. He insisted that there wouldn’t be any English material and no way for us to know the background to the story etc… I asked if there was any English available and they said there wasn’t any. I still wanted to watch the show but it wasn’t meant to be and were relegated to walking around the theater and it was marvelous. I was a bit saddened the show wouldn’t happen. I later read the reviews that the theater has seats where viewing is limited, uncomfortable and not worth it. In the end, I’m writing this and still regretting the fact that we didn’t watch a show but next time, I’ll go without my in laws, lol. The building is magnificent from the outside and if you get a chance to watch a play just do it!

We went here to see a Pansori performance. Tickets were inexpensive with a variety of discounts. Several building arranged somewhat like a campus for theater studies. Not much English support, however. Yes, workers speak some English, but no books, materials, programs, translations, headphones, subtitles or anything else. Still, very much worth a visit I think. The audience seemed very serious, very well acquainted with the work and enthusiastic.

Recently went to see the U.S. production of the Chicago Musical at the National Theater of Korea. It was a beautiful, upmarket and glamorous theater.

The building itself is very grand. It looks impressive from the outside and the grounds are well manicured. This theater holds many famous shows and events. The problem is that the layout and design of the seats makes it terrible. It is all by luck weather you will have a good view or not. On my visit I bought the most expensive seat tickets. I was only a few rows from the stage however because of the design the incline from the first row to the last is so slight that even a short person blocks your view of the stage. I am quiet angry because half of the stage was blocked by the persons head in front of me. Every time he moved his head I had to readjust mine. If you do come here to see a show I would recommend getting the cheaper seats and sitting on the balcony. You may have a better view then the expensive seats. You can always see more on my blog all about korea at Bobby's Awesome Life. It has a more detailed review of this theater as well as many others in Seoul.
