Neighborhood: Hongdae
Carefree enthusiasm is everywhere in this energetic neighborhood centered on Hongik University, Korea’s top art school. From its assortment of murals to the occasional amateur street performances, creativity and expression make up the wild and beating heart of vibrant Hongdae. At the Free and Hope Market (weekends at the Hongdae Children’s Playground) you'll find one of Seoul’s most popular handmade and creative markets drawing consistent crowds. At Hongdae, there’s never a shortage of things to do and see; food and drink options are nearly endless as are shops and noraebang (karaoke) rooms. Hongdae is also one of Seoul’s top party and club scenes catering to a younger demographic; if a packed club isn’t your scene, you'll also find a range of music venues and bars offering live music in all genres. Although Hongdae has lost much of its unique appeal and undergone rapid commercialization in recent years, be sure to explore Hongdae’s edges in areas such as Sangsu-dong and Yeonnam-dong where Hongdae’s fiercely independent streak still runs freely.

nice staff but a little disorganized, and strong odor
after visiting a lot of other animal cafes in japan and seoul; this one has a lot to improve on. we wanted to see meerkats but when we came at closing (don't go after 6pm) we were told we only had 30 minutes left to see the animals AFTER paying the fee. the staff themselves were great by the way but we weren't sure what was going on when we walked into the main floor. there wasn't a lot of instruction given to us other than please read the signs. granted, my korean is limited so i understand this is on us as foreigners but it was still disorganized. when we were let in, we sat around for 15 minutes but the staff finally let out foxes to play. after 15 minutes, we were told we only had 20 minutes left to see the meerkat upstairs. i will chalk this up to us coming later but it might have been better to tell us to come another day. as for the animals themselves, we saw racoons, meerkats, 2 baby joeys, bengal cats, and foxes. there was a slight odor thruout both rooms that we couldn't just look past. im sure the staff are doing their best but this cafe could use some improvement. most of the time, you just sat and waited for the animals to come around you. a lot of the times the animals were just disinterested which i understand, i'd be tired of people too lol. for the meerkats, we sat down in the room to play with them and that was prob the highlight of the cafe visit for those 10 minutes. maybe on the next visit we'll give them another try.

    Worth trying it
We were the first ones to arrive and we were guided by a man that explained what we have to do and what are the rules. On the first floor we interacted with the dogs, the raccoon and later with the foxes. The place was clean and the girl that works there helped us get closer to the raccoon. After 15 minutes we were informed that we could go upstairs and after they checked that we dont have anything with us to hurt the meerkats (bracelets, watches etc) we went in their area to observe them closer. The meerkats were lovely and curious, they jumped on us while they were waiting for their food. After another 15 minutes we had a chance to play with the snow bengal cats and the wallabies. Also the surprise was the kinkajou, we did not expect that and the girls were very nice and let me and my partner to carry him on our shoulder. Indeed there was quite a strong smell upstairs but I would say it’s understandable, it did not ruin the experience. For sure its worth it for the price we paid, comparing to similar experiences in UK for example. Also the animals seemed happy and confident and the staff seemed like they care about the animals as well.

    Meerkats, foxes, raccoons, and wallabies!
Such a fun place. You get to interact with a number of furry things. Lovely and thorough staff- proper rules/safety brief before each animal is introduced. 15k KRW/person if you pay cash. 16k if you pay by card.

As an animal lover, it’s hard to enjoy this place. I love animals, but I understand that exotic animals especially need to be in their natural habitat. This location is on the third floor in the middle of a very metropolitan area, providing little accommodation to the animals’ needs. They have approximately 20 meerkats, 2 wallabies, 1 raccoon, 2 cats, and a few other animals. It’s a very small space and it seems that the animals are the only attraction. There is very little as far as cafe options go. I regret financially supporting this establishment; if I could go back, I would not visit. If you’re a lover of animals, do not go here.

I was in two minds about going here as an animal lover but decided to give it a go out of curiosity.
Honestly it was just sad. It's not a cafe, it's a miniature petting zoo with far too many anxious, stressed out animals. The environment is far from enriching for them and they all just seemed stressed and wanted to get away from humans.
One of the wallabies had an extremely overgrown toenail that looked very painful, and the racoons were frantically pacing backwards and forwards in their cages.
There are far better cafes in Seoul that have the animals' best interests at heart but this definitely isn't one of them. Please don't support this place.

Terrible experience due to unfriendly, rude staff. We went there past 12pm and were told it was closed (though stated opening time is 12). Then she went on to asking the age of my daughter (7yo) and she said she couldn't neuter the meerkat room. We then asked if she could enter the other animal rooms. She asnswred it was OK but an adult had to stay with her, which we were fine with it. We were discussing to go around to see shops or come back another day but the the lady then abruptly said "OK, please leave here, we are closed" and litteraly shoved us out. Not the way to treat customers 💩😠

This place left me mainly sad. The wild animals are kept in small spaces and they are visibly anxious and stressed. It’s one thing to have a cat cafe but there are wild animals at this place that don’t have the right conditions. The meerkats are constantly going for the door and trying to get out. They dont enjoy people coming in the room. There was a wallaby that looked sick, breathing heavy in the corner and looking anxious. Please don’t visit, go to a dog or cat cafe instead!

Very cute and fun thing to do. We loved interacting with meerkats, foxes, raccoon, dogs and cats. Don’t expect food at this place but expect to get up close and personal with cute animals. The staff were kind and caring of the animals. Clearly this isn’t a natural environment for the animals (neither are zoos) but the animals seemed very well cared for and loved.

Hot tip - don’t wear lace or clothes that could be easily torn by sharp claws. One meerkat took a peculiar interest in the tag inside my shirt which I tucked into my jeans and under the sheet cover provided by the staff. The meerkat still managed to get to the tag 😀

This place was okay. The raccoons and ferrets were sleeping our entire time there, so we didn't get to do much with them. The meerkats were pretty funny, they were unhinged and kept sticking their hands into the holes in my crocs. They alone made the trip memorable. The kinkajou wasn't available cause it was in heat lol. They also had an alpaca which was not expected at all. Got to hold a chameleon which was cool too. I can see why some people say this place was kindle sad, the animals definitely seem kindle depressed and scramble to get out the door while you're entering. However I saw how they reacted with the employee and they seemed to have a good relationship with her. It was cool to do for the one time, not mind blowing but it was a memorable experience I will say

If your looking for a one of a kind Fantastic time, go here! It’s not to get a cafe drink, it’s for being with awesome animals. For all the morality I’ve read. These animals are well taken care of. The people that care for them have a heart. They’ve been raised around us. They feel good and bad people like all animals. Maybe your experience was what you deserved. This is a chance to interact with beautiful animals. My daughter, niece as well as I are true animal lovers and have many different at our homes. Please take your thoughts that you have no clue and move forward. Go for the experience not a drink! You’ll not forget it!

We arrived and the cafe is up on the third floor. A small shabby floor. As you go in you take your shoes off and put on and old worn pair of slippers on. Then you queue to enter a cage where the meerkats are. You sit on the floor crossed legged with a blanket across you and the animals run all over you. They bite (be warned), one bit a hole in my jumper. The man picked on us as we were the only Westerners in the cafe and told us to leave the penned area as my daughter gentled picked one from her lap and placed it on the floor. There were two wallaby's, one was walking around and weeing and pooing everywhere and the other one was in a small cage. The worst part was a racoon was in a small 1m long cage (see photos) and was pacing up and down clearly distressed and the staff did not move it to a larger area. It was a very sad and run down place and seems like a money making place. Its no cafe, there is a class cabinet with a few drinks, its really awful and the animals are not looked after and should not be trapped in the large room. DO NOT GO HERE.

These animals are desperate to do their natural behaviors but are stuck on tile floors. They were obviously very hungry and were exhibiting neurotic behavior. The people working there were clearly irritated with them. So sorry we spent money to encourage this when there are cat cafes where the cats obviously enjoy the environment and many other unique and fun places to see in the area.
