The area

Address
Neighborhood: Seodaemun
Walk within this area, centered on what used to be the western gate of traditional Seoul, and you'll get a glimpse of Korea’s past through the beautiful and historic buildings that are scattered throughout. Whether wandering around Deoksugung’s palace walls or touring more historically somber sites such as Seodaemun Prison, this is one of the best places for culture, architecture, and history lovers. Jeongdong in particular is a beautiful place for a stroll in spring and autumn.

This is one of few remaining traditional markets remaining in Seoul. Well-maintained arcade has many shops.
It's good to visit for shopping or eating.
- Close from Seodaemun Independence Park, metro #3 Dongnimmun.
- Most visitors seemed like people living in the neighborhood. Not that touristic.
- Street foods here were pretty affordable and tasty.

A local transitional Korean market. This place is a hidden gem if you would like to see how locals do their daily grocery shopping. Its not a touristy area so English here is minimal. But despite that, people here is very friendly - we able to buy deep fried chicken, spicy rice cake, grocery without problems. Also get to see some local items like a old lady sewing blanket.

Yeongcheon Traditional Market is well worth seeing for all the varieties of fresh fruit and vegetables, meat and fish, some clothing and simple market restaurants. I can highly recommend the freshly baked twisted pretzels from the outside stall at the back of the market. The market is located a short walk away from Seodaemun Independence Park/ Dongnimmun Arch/ Dongnimmun Metro.
