Very bad condition somebody should take animals and close it. Take care of animals!!!! City should invet find better location and take care of animals if economical they cant support they should close it. Adminisytration should look for some donations and sponsors. Looks like this place is dying. Very sad view. If somebody can support i think it will help somehow, but somebody have to manage this zoo.

I personally found this zoo very fascinating and a proper traditional zoo with some beautiful and interesting animals (living by the way in good conditions and with thoughtful caring park keepers). If visitors cannot enjoy this zoo for being just a nice place to spend an afternoon instead of some modern souless 'theme park' - then go to Dubai or Walt Disney. I look forward to returning to this zoo - a quiet place of contemplation, local Georgian families simply enjoying the sunshine and with animals in a relaxing and interesting habitat.

Horrible and depressing place to visit. The place smells. Animals don't look very well cared for and are kept in small areas.

I understand this place will close soon. Hope the new Zoo will be better.

A small zoo oddly located in residential neighborhood. Although the facilities looked quite aged, the animals were generally very healthy and vigorously active.
It has a kids playground as well, so it is a perfect place to pass a couple of hours with young children.

Tbilisi zoo is not a good place for animals. I understand the zoo was flooded last year, but unfortunately they have not been able to update it. It is a prison in the worst sense. Some animals like the yaks, zebras, horses seem to have a fair bit of space. Some however are in an awful state.

Some points:
-Several monkeys seemed to have infections.
-The hippo is in a tiny pool barely bigger than it's own great size.(this was the single most awful feature of the zoo)
-The African Civet was pacing around its tiny cage, obviously not fully sane.
-in general, animal areas were far too small, dung not collected enough (the zoo stank of excrement),.
-there are playground rides everywhere, the aquatic bumper cars had roughly 5 times more water in their pool than the hippo.

I suggest the zoo shuts down, to see such deprivation was quite saddening. Either that or they increase the ridiculously cheap (even by Georgian standards) entrance fee (2GEL) and INVEST in the animals and turn it into an educational zoo.

There is virtually no information whatsoever on the animals. Only a handful had a small info board.

Do not visit this zoo. It is a travesty and shows mankind at its worst; dominating nature in a horrific way.

Update: On 14 June 2015, half of Tbilisi Zoo was washed away in an unpredicted flood. All the animal pens at the low end of the zoo were so inundated by the flood, the animals were floated right over the enclosures. These were the tigers, lions, bears, wolves and the hippo. News reports claim half of the zoo's 400 animals may have been lost, along with the lives of three zoo keepers and a dozen other civilians. For those of you visiting Tbilisi, please keep an eye on the zoo and let us know how they are doing.

The Tbilisi Zoo is worth visiting once if you have small children or are in town for more than a couple of days. The pens are old, small and dirty. When it rains manure and dirt will cover the walking paths, so wear waterproof shoes if you have them and the ground is wet. Despite some of the unpleasantries, you can get pretty close to some of the animals, plus there are some small amusement rides that children can ride for cheap. There are a couple of "cafes" and carts that sell snacks, but you should not plan on eating much of a meal there.

As of August 2018, the zoo was in poor condition. Animals live in terrible conditions.

The terrarium is relatively good. There's a green snake that I couldn't get enough of.

The price for the ticket is 2 gel, the entrance to the terrarium 2 gel.

The zoo is located in central Tbilisi. It is very poorly maintained and does not hold a lot of animals. It also has several carnival rides such as Ferris wheel and a small train. Kids under 3 enter free. And kids 3-12 pay 1 Gel. Kids over 12 and adults pay 2 Gel.if you're looking to spend and hour or so and have nothing
Else planned it's an option.
