Itās nice to come here when itās hot to grasp some air. We also visited wine museum and it was a very good experience. The museum of Tbilisi history has an exhibition in a style of āschool excursion twenty years ago that you hateā. No information provided, just thing displayed and you try to figure it out. Upstairs the display is at leat ordered and the small houses and replicas look nice. Downstairs the exhibition goes random and it looks like anyone can bring something relatively old and put it there. Iām not impressed, but I give three stars for the beautiful miniature houses which show old Tbilisi.

Very interesting and nice museum. Only downside is that in the mock Georgian houses dark. We had to use a flashlight on the phone, which would examine the small rooms. Temporary exhibitions are held on the top floor, a permanent exhibition, which in addition to layouts, represented by furniture, clothes, dishes and etc ancient times

In the old city of Tbilisi there is a remodeled 17th Century Tbilisi Caravanserai from the old Greater Silk Road and is located on Sioni Street! Today it is called the Tbilisi Historical Museum.
It now houses many art galleries and gift shops on the ground; first and second floors along with a great Wine Bar and Restaurant on the lower floor.
It is well worth a visit especially on a hot Tbilisi afternoon as the temperature indoors is quite cool.

The History Museum is cute and worth a stop if you have time. Lots of miniatures and diaramas of old buildings and historical pictures. A real hidden gem, though, is the Wine Museum that you pay for separately from the lower level. It doesn't have a separate Trip Advisor entry yet but really well worth a visit. You get to go down into the bowels of this centuries old caravanseria and learn a lot about the history of Georgian wine. Soon they will be opening a restaurant as well. We went twice to bring some friends and had two different guides and got great information from them both. I highly recommend this.

This review is quite late. With the very limited display of artifacts it gives the visitor the feeling that the place is an art gallery rather than a Museum.

Worth a visit if your into artifacts that are relevant to Georgian history. The souvenir market in the basement is okay.. but not the best.

The museum is a small exhibition dedicated to primarily late XIX early XX century with some other bits thrown in. The curators are very knowledgeable and try to fill the gaps as the exhibition itself is very poorly annotated. You see wonderful exhibits but are left to your own devices in interpreting as the signs (when exhibits have them) only name the articles and give the period they date back to.
Tbilisi and Georgian government should dedicate a proper museum to this wonderful city!
Anyway, please come and see at least this, there are interesting pieces there

The Tbilisi History Museum is ideally situated on Sioni Street in the heart of the Old Tbilsi City, which is also a popular tourist area. I think this museum is part of the Georgian National Museum which preserves the nation's history. There is a museum fee of GEL 5 before you enter. This would be a perfect spot for those who have a deep love and passion for history and a keen interest in the past.
Walking through this museum is like browsing through an old photo album, looking at past scenes which capture people, places and interesting items. There are beautifully designed models of buildings which depict how homes, shops and other landmarks looked in the old city of Tbilisi, during 19th century and early 20th century. Displayed on the walls are black and white photos of Georgians, and in glass cases you can see very old items and objects. The exihibits try to accurately capture what life was like back in the old days. You can also see traditional costumes, old carpets, pottery, porcelain crockery, musical insturments, paintings, antique furniture etc.
On the second floor there is a photo exhibition. Photos of a Georgian photograher are displayed - Vakho Khetaguri captures on camera scenes of everyday Georgian life, both past and present. The photo art is worth taking a look at, which will also be of interest to lovers of photography and art.
At the basement of the building there are souvenir shops where one can purchase clothing or art pieces, and other national items and objects.
At the entrance, there is also a museum shop where you can purchase postcards, books and other souvenirs.
I recommend this museum to those traveling through or touring in Tbilisi. Please note that there is no cafe on the premises. Taking photos is allowed.
