The prices of oriental rugs are very reasonable in Tbilisi and when you buy one from Manana, owner of Caucasian Carpets Gallery, you can rest assured that you are buying a ruf as described from an honest and knowledgable merchant who realizes the imporatance that a good name plays in business dealings.
Of course, Manana is in business to make money - aren't we all?
However, Manana believes in repeat business and that doing the right thing results in a win-win scenario.
She is not pushy, is always willing to listen to your requests and gladly impart her considerable wisdom in the field.
The prices are fair and the selection excellent.
We selected 2 rugs which they kept aside for us for a day till we decided.
Upon return to the store, Manana's son, Rapi, was present.
Well, it seems as though the apple hasn't fallen far from the tree.
Rapi speaks excellent English, is also very knowledgable and doesn't rely on a hard sell.
We selected a rug to take home with us and they gladly agreed to deliver it to the hotel.
Suffice to say that the excellent reviews of Caucasian Carpet Gallery are well deserved.

Lonely Planet raised my expectations stating that this shop "has the best selection of any Old Town carpet shop, with colourful rugs from Georgia, Azerbaijan, Iran and Central Asia". I was not disappointed. The range was immense, carpets piled up all around the shop made from wool and embroidered with silk. The staff were incredibly helpful, finding several options for each of our requirements so we could choose the one we preferred. The shop also sells traditions tablecloths in various sizes.

I collect carpets and textiles and this carpet gallery certainly offers a great selection of carpets and kilims from the greater Caucasus region. Most impressive is the knowledge of the family, who owns the business. They were more than happy to lay out and show me the range of their holdings and were furthermore able to help me locate the perfect carpets after spending two hours opening and closing 40 or 50 of them. Simply talking with the ladies there was a pleasure. I highly recommend buying from them or at least stopping to take a look at the marvelous textile art produced from the greater region.
A plus is also that visa is accepted here considering that the price for good carpets is in the hundreds.

great range of carpets and plenty of space in the pedestrian-only street to see them! Carpets from all over Georgia are available at this shop ... and the staff are more than happy to whip them out and lay them all over the street for you to view in the natural light. Knowledgeable and friendly staff with good english. No hard sell which was really nice.
strongly recommend visiting this shop if you are keen to buy a carpet or learn more about Georgian carpets.

I came to Azerbaijan and Georgia for a visit and ended up purchases a few antique carpets. I guess it is a must thing to do when you are in Caucasus.
Manana Arkania and her staff were super knowledgeable and accommodating. I had lots of requirements for the carpet - color pattern, size and material - and after showing me a few dozen carpets, we finally settled on two. Not only do they sell a quality carpets and kilims, they would also do all the paper work and acquire the travel permits from the Ministry of Culture and clean/pack the carpets for pick-up.
It is important to have trust in the sales person especially when you are buying something you don't know much about and spending $600-700+ per item, and not for a second I doubt Manana's intentions or sincerely. I have plenty of carpets to cover the entire apartment but when I am in Tbilisi next time, I will get one more for sure!

About 7 years ago I used to stop here and have tea and jam. I bought several carpets over the 3 years I was in Georgia -- my daughter took several of them but I have one left to remember my wonderful stay. Looks like the place has expanded so I'm happy to see it's doing well. The owner was a wonderful lady and had several women working with her who were very knowledgeable and talented in repairs.

Besides that the shop has many types of kilims and patterns to offer, they do also make some more things of wool. The guy who assisted us was very polite and helpful, was showings us everything we wanted without complaining and mostly without being pushy! Loved it!
