It is fitting that the Metekhi Cathedral is in such a strategic position given that it symbolises the wanton destruction of so many lives......and which will never be forgotten. The juxtaposition with the statue of the King Davit is also symbolic. The Cathedral has many icons inside and there was a service taking place which helped with the ambience. ....slightly... More

It is perched on a hill overlooking the Maidan next to bird nests houses you see in every picture of Tbilisi. The views on the city are unforgettable. Bring a scarf as you need to cover up before entering like in all churches of Tbilisi

Metekhi Cathedral is located around a square on top of hill and beside the river. Stature of king is located in the yard and you can go inside freely.

This was my first visit to a cathedral in Tbilisi. It was nice. Good architecture. No photography was allowed. The surrounding view was good, as well.

Iconic church that towers above the Mtkvari River and Old Town. It affords superb views of the city below and looks amazing when viewed from below too. The Cathedral itself is being renovated at the moment but the interior is unaffected and is really beautiful. There was a service on when I called so no photos but a lovely place,... More

You really owe it to yourself to find out the backstory of the Martyr who is buried here in the far left corner. Without a spoiler, she gives a symbol of strength to the Georgian woman. The church and courtyard are "working" holy places, so please be reverent and quiet outside and ladies take a scarf at the door if... More

This is a very small church situation on a hill overlooking the river in the older part of town. It has a huge parking lot on the side of it where you can have some views of the river and the hills around the city. The grounds of the church need someone to clean up the landscaping. The church itself... More
