Very beautiful building from the outside and inside. I have been to the opera show and have spent many hours sitting near the building. I like the atmosphere there and am glad they are improving it as many years ago it had a lot of trash around it as well as drunk people.

Beautiful exterior. It is really not that far from the old city and Liberty Square, but not exactly on the path. It has a lovely garden and great architecture. Learn about the designer and the original opera house that burned down.

The opera makes for an marvelous evening in Tbilisi. The theater has just reopened after extensive renovations and provide both a great atmosphere and high class performances that could match those of Bolshoi in Moscow or Mariinsky in St Petersburg. The ticket price is very reasonable and the only disappointing part of the experience was the rather poor selection of food and wine during the interval.

This great Opera House is the home of the Georgian State Ballet and Opera Companies. Very oriental in its construction the interior gives leaves you in no doubt that, although tucked away in a small country, this is one of the world's leading opera houses. Do try and catch a performance of either company - and if the ballet, they often perform work by European and American choreographers and is led by Nina Ananiashvili, herself a ballerina with the Moscow Bolshoi Ballet. Tickets are easily obtainable from the box office, or indeed some of the music and book shops on Rustaveli Avenue.

We bought tickets online for a ballet performance about a month in advance. We saw a ballet based on a popular children's cartoon that seems like a Georgian version of the Nutcracker. The young kids seemed to enjoy it and it was fun to see the little ballerinas twirling in the splendid rooms of the theater during intermission. Randomly, everyone joined in singing the Beatles' "All you Need is Love" at the end. The family of the great choreographer George Balanchine came from Georgia, so there is a strong ballet tradition. There was a real "wow" factor when the dancers performed part of the pas de deux from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, so it would have been nice to see a more serious work. We wish we had also been able to attend an opera in this magnificent building with its Moorish architectural influences. Two of the best seats in the house in a private box were the equivalent of about $50 USD. Great value for a memorable culture experience.

We enjoyed the ballet Anna Karenina at this recently beautifully renovated Opera house. The ticket price is very affordable for the tourists, not sure about local people.

If you have opportunity to see the performance, please do it. You would enjoy it. Our seats were at the tier 1 level, and it was too hot there. Looks like no A/C or ventilation at that area. The locals are dressed nicely, some of them even in the evening gown and many in the cocktail dress. No fashion police at the theater but dress smart.

This theatre has had the most amazing renovation and is truly stunning. We saw a performance of Swan Lake which was also wonderful - excellent staging, costumes and performances. But the audience were dreadful. We had two people in our line of sight who were constantly on their mobile phones and someone at the end of the row in front videoed the whole performance. And there were photos taken throughout the theatre. Don't people realise that it's not just ringtones that affect others - it's the glare from their devices.
In fairness to the dancers and other performers (and the audiences), this theatre needs to get a grip on its audiences and start to enforce better brhsviou
