Gudauri is north of the city of Tbilisi, about 2 hours away. It is located in the Greater Caucasus mountain range of Georgia. Gudauri is well known for its ski resorts and has earned its title as 'The Skiing Paradise'. In the winter months, Gudauri becomes a beautiful snow land, with the trees looking like ice sculptures and the mountain slopes draped with blankets of snow. The 'snowscape' along the way to Gudauri is a truly spectacular sight!
The Gudauri tour offered by the tour company Holidays in Georgia (/holidaysingeorgia.ge) is a one day tour, which includes stops at the Zhinvali Reservoir and the Annauri Fortress, and of course allowing travellers and/or tourists a few hours at the Gudauri ski resort, which is the highlight of the tour.
Whilst this location is ideal for ski lovers, it can also be enjoyable for those who would like to just experience the snow, either by walking around, taking ski lifts or cable cars to get a great view of the surroundings, or riding on snow-mobiles or even just snowboarding. There are great cafes (with heating) to warm yourself over a hot cup of coffee, hot chocolate or where you can also have a meal.
The ski lift ride costs GEL 10 - one can buy a multi-pass (two-way ride).
This tour also allows the group to have a late lunch at a Georgian restaurant, an ideal time to try Georgian food. The tour guide Pata, did an excellent job with the tour.
It is advisable to wear very warm, comfortable clothes and shoes/boots as it is extremely cold, with heavy snow at times. Also, carry a good camera.
I thoroughly enjoyed this tour and recommend it to others travelling through Georgia.
