Located in the Sulphur Baths area, the monument is dedicated to the founding of the city. As per the local legend, the city was founded when the King Vakhtang's Falcon hunted a Pheasant and fell with it into the waters. The birds died in the hot waters which led to the founding of the city which is still named after the warm waters.

The monument depicts a Falcon sitting on top of a dead Pheasant. The birds are placed on top of a globe which sits on a sloping stone slab. Water (depicting the original warm waters after which the city was named) flows gently over the slab.

The monument is small and simple but very important to the history of the city. It is also a great photo spot and you will not miss it if you visit the sulphur baths.

This is a small statue but very significant to the area. I believe that the city was founded because the kings falcon hunted a pheasant and they both fell into the hot water. The king on following the birds found the warm water and hence named the city after this. Hopefully I haven’t got the story wrong, but it was something like that. Good place for a photo snap!

A small statue of a falcon standing with pride. Not sure of the purpose or story of the falcon but it magically blends with the eastern taste of the area with the public baths at the back

This review is quite late. The Monument Fountain Falcon and Pheasant is an eye- catching statue located at the heart of the Sulphur Bath Area. It is big enough to be seen by passers-by.

Really nothing to write home about, nor anything bad to say about it. It's just a simple bronze small statue located in old town.

The monument symbolises the story/legend of the founding of Tbilisi. King Vakhtang was on a hunting party within the gorge area, his falcon caught a pheasant, and with it plunged into a hot spring, both birds died in the heat of the water. King Vakhtang was so impressed he built a city on the location, now the old town Tbilisi (the warm place). As told by our free walking tour (guide), which we highly recommend to get a full understanding of the city, told by a local.

Our city tour started at this point. At getting down from the bus, we gathered in this area. A nice falcon statue is in the center. Continue walking till you reach to a small waterfall which is familiar for the local. Before that, a wooden bridge with many locks hanged in and with various names. Back to the falcon, in this area, you can see many half circle domes around you, and many fresh juice sellers. The area is full of hotels, cafes and souvenirs shops.
