Firstly an impressive colonial design railway building, pre-WW-2 built and a bit run-down yet functional, one can see the ticket selling office in the original old style ! Long timber counters, each with a small window for buying tickets where inside is the workplace those officers prepare tickets for sale. A long walk leading to a footbridge crossing the railway lines, one can take nice pictures of the railway from above. The locomotives are all diesel powered, each looks 1960 / 70 design but work perfectly well; the train compartments are primitive, with long seats like those in city metro, unfortunately these are not air conditioned ! There were hawkers shuttling between compartments selling all kinds of food and drinks to passengers. After a not too long wait, the train started to move, not at great speed, but the next station is always within 5 minutes while in the city; classic and primitive stations were seen on our way to the destination. Commuters often carried with them large bags of articles instead of luggage, likely to be for commercial selling. The weather in January is not hot, no sweating experience although the ceiling fans in train compartment were not turned on.

This railway station is probably fairly typical of other colonial grand public buildings in that it reflects the architectural style of the colonisers. Except that this one has a melding of English colonial and Burmese styles. You just have to check out the fancy, lacy turrets on the station to know this. It's probably worth having a look around even of you aren't actually going anywhere on the train.
Do be aware that if a vehicle drives you onto the station forecourt to drop you off then you have to pay a small toll. SO either arrange to be dropped outside the gates or have some extra small notes handy to pay this.

A not to be missed remnant of by-gone colonial days. Also the scene of the only "scam" we had in Yangon. We were approached by a young man anxious to buy us ticket
(K 200 each), the going price for the circle train. He bought the tickets then asked us to buy water from his sister for triple the going rate. Felt obligated to do so. I wanted to get my picture taken with the boy who outsmarted me, but he cleared out fast.
The rail bed is being rehabilitated and upgraded. Hopefully enough money will be left to rehabilitated the station. It's current state is much worse than pictures from even a few years ago.

A very nice place in Yangon. The central station with circulation train around the city that would be one of the most interesting activities in the capital of Myanmar.
The construction is remained for long time but being in good condition in use.
It is not so hard to buy ticket for tourists like us, because they have all the guidance sign in each lane.

Came here to get the circle train. Taxi driver asked me if this was the right place? I’m the tourist how would I know? But it was. Lots of helpful people to make sure you get the right ticket and get on the right train.

We decided to do the Yangon Circle Track train trip today but found we could only go from Yangon to Insein. The round trip, we were told, would take 2 hours but it was more like 4 hours. Considering it cost us AUD 20 cents, it was well worth the experience as we bought food from the various vendors, sat with a group of 5 very young nun novices.
If you have a few hours to spare, this really gives you a true perspective of life in Yangon and its surrounding suburbs.

The railway station is a beautiful architectural wonder. It has great rooftop design and tickets can be bought easily to anydestination in Myanmar. The circular train in Yangon is great for train enthusiasts as well as for travelers. For one crisp American dollar you can ride for the whole day. You can gen on and off anytime you like. Just know the schedule of when the next train is coming

Having seen it from my room at Hotel G I was impressed enough by the view to go and have a look, but it is very much a working station with nothing for the foreign tourist as far as I could tell, though trainspotters may disagree..

The Central Railway station has 7 platforms. I took the circular train twice from seventh platform. 200 kyats for the trip which spans three hours.

What time does the train leaves and how many times a day for the 3 hrs ride
Written February 26, 2018
Easy to find timetable online. About three hours around. I didn’t get off. As noted this is not a tourist train. The train I was on was a retired Japanese metro train probably 30 years old. I loved the journey and would recommend it.
