Although largely Buddhist, Yangon is a diverse city with different religions and cultures. Sri Kali is a good illustration to the city's history. This Hindu temple is the typical Tamil-style institution for the local Indian community. The facade is interesting.

This temple was founded by the Tamil traders community in 1871. It was further enhanced by the Marwari trading community. It is well maintained and the priest (he speaks Hindi) performs regular ceremonies and prayers everyday. This may not be of interest to non-Indians; but it is certainly of interest to Indians both from a religious and social -history point of view.

Situated in middle of downtown area. Vibrant color painting on numerous small idols place on pyramid shaped outer walls of roof. Idol looks live and powerful.
