About
The Secretariat is Yangon’s most intriguing and beautiful historic architectural landmark. The Victorian-colonial masterpiece that sits on almost 16 acres in the heart of Yangon was once the seat of British administration in Burma. Today The Secretariat Yangon is nearing the end of a multi-year renovation that will allow everyone the opportunity to explore this elegant “grande dame.” The Secretariat Yangon’s more than 400,000 square feet of space is once again coming alive with a vibrant mix of tenants that will include museum and art exhibit spaces, cultural and private event spaces, guided tours, as well as retail shops, restaurants and commercial office space - all nestled in a treasure of Victorian architecture and surrounded by flowering gardens. Currently the East Wing and North Wing are open to the public.

The place is undergoing extensive renovations, so large parts of it are empty or closed. The front entrance with its open airy foyer is admittedly quite nice but it doesn't take long to have a look. Otherwise some sleepy souvenir and handicraft stores are open, with one cafe (some fast food restaurants like KFC have also taken up residence).

I took the 3:30 pm exclusive guided tour. I was very pleased with the explanation of the tour guide. Considering the fact that the guide's experience is just 2 months old, her explanation was superb. The history that lies inside the building is just amazing. I would recommend hiring a guided tour at the entrance gate. You will be able to gain access to areas that aren't open to the public. Definitely a recommended place of interest in Yangon. 5/5. Superb!

This old Colonial building is one of the best tours you can take in Burma ( Myanmar).
Apart from the wonderful restoration that has happened and continues the design and colonial architecture is just amazing and will not disappoint. Add the all of that the first Burmese Parliament was established among the buildings as well as the room where 11 of the MP's were assassinated by a mad man and there are still bullet holes in the wall of the room.
This is a must see tour and pay the extra for the private guide.

An impressive building from the Colonial era that has been well maintained and is also currently undergoing extensive renovation.
My wife and I took a guided tour. We had watched the movie, "The Lady" about Myanmar, twice over the years. This building was featured in that movie.

Decided to do the guided tour on our second day in Yangon. The building is being refurbished and there isn't a large amount of things to see. However it was interesting and a good way to get a brief summary of the history since colonial times.

Do take the opportunity to visit this wonderful building, dating from the time the British ran Burma. Enjoy the old parliament chamber, built on the British model. Above all, learn about the first Martyrs day, when President Aung Sang was assassinated, along with eighteen colleagues.Deeply informative.

There is still active construction going on at this location and the tour guide will take you around it. That makes it quite unique for a tour. Cost is 15,000 per person for a guided tour. We arrived 20 minutes before the start of the 3:30 PM tour. Our young tour guide was very knowledgable and took us to the inside of the building under construction. There is a short 10 minute video. You were taken upstairs to the room where the great leader was assassinated along with six cabinet members. Well worth a visit. If you like this review or the photos, please give me a thumbs up. You may also like my reviews of Singapore, Bianca, and other cities in southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Portugal, and cities in South America. This museum is located a short taxi ride from an excellent hotel where we stayed a week. The Chstrium Hotel.

The building itself is already interesting. Isn't it? You can get a tour inside it too. Just 6 USD for foreigners . A worth to visit and of course a good photo spot. It's interesting because of our lady Daw Aung San Suu Kyi 's father and his members . Just google it . You will know more. It's just a short review.

Considering the Secretariat is undergoing major renovations, we were able to go inside with a guide for 6 US dollars per person. It is an amazing building with a lot of important history for the Burmese people. I was very moved and think this is well worth a visit if you want to learn and see were a martyr was made

It was quite emotional to see the place. My maternal grand dad was the accountant general for the British empire. His office was in this building.
