The recently restored temples from the Arrakan empire are Bagan style in diversity but still free from hordes of visitors. This allows for a more leisurely appreciation and heightened atmospherics for each site. It is quite a magical site, with thick-walled pagodas sitting like fat mushrooms on the hilltops around town. The 5-7 hour Kaladan river trip from Sittwe is... More

If you're planning a trip to Myanmar, you should definitely consider including a few nights in Mrauk U in your itinerary! I've read a couple of reviews where travellers have compared Mrauk U to Bagan, but for me Mrauk U was special and well worth the effort/time it takes to get there. The architecture and landscapes are unique with temples... More

We have just finished a day visiting the Chin Villages from Mrauk U. Initially, we were unsure of whether to travel to the Rakhine State as some warnings were in place. However, now that we are here, we can see that these seem over cautious as it is (as far as we can tell) a peaceful and safe place. We... More

we had a great 4 day stay in Mrauk U- very well organised by our guide Myint Zaw. It is a great location and totally unexpected. The other advantage is that there are few tourists so you get the place all to yourself sometimes. We stayed at the Mrauk U Princess resort which is an oasis of peace and tranquility.... More

I recently read the review of Myint stating unhappiness with him. While I am sorry someone had an unpleasant experience with him I would like to counter the experience from our side. We had quite a different experience. Myint was very kind and always punctual with time. He also didn't ask for money up front but waited for us to... More

I just back from 4D3N trip to Mrauk U, Rakhine State, Myanmar. My trip included a day trip to Chin villages to meet Chin tribe women with spiderweb tattoo on their face. Mrauk U is an amazing place with ancient stone temple and pagoda with beautiful stone carvings. We can also watch spectacular sunrise and sunset views from top of... More

I had read the positive reviews on here about Myint Zaw so I contacted him to be my guide for a three day visit in early December. We were in contact for a couple of months before the trip, and he asked me if he could hand me off to another guide instead of him. I said I would prefer... More

We travelled to Mrauk U by boat - just us, a guide and four crew - and from the moment we left Sittwe the journey and destination did not fail to impress. You should check your government overseas advisory service before going. There was some unrest in the province a few days before we arrived and again since we have... More
