Hideaway is worth a visit if you enjoy snorkeling. The post office is right there so you will see it anyway, but don't make a special trip just to see the pos toffice.

Located near the reef, very unique and fun

The location of this post office is right off the beach from Hideaway Island and right next to the reef. Good snorkelling at the reef and just fun to see this underwater post office.

The only underwater postoffice in the world and water proof postcards are only $400 VAT why would you not do this???? for the kids you may need to go down to help them post the letter as it can be a bit of a way but they will remember it forever.

Unquie - needs coral planted - swim further out to see the beauty!
Jun 2019
Unique never sent postcard underwater before and received the card within a week of returning to Australia

Needs coral planted but I put it down to tourist not caring about the coral and walking on it all and not wearing the correct shoes also. due to high traffic for the post office they should make a foot path for people to stand on and no damage the coral

Swim further out to see the beauty! swim another 50 metres past the post office and see beautiful fish and coral it's only 2 foot from the water surface so you MUST swim flat and don't stand up !!

Could be so much more

Although a quaint idea the post box has probably seen better days and is in desperate need of maintenance.

Definitely not worth a paid day trip with a tour operator if you want to visit the post box just pay a local water taxi to get to Hideaway Island.

That said our post card did reach our intended recipient, albeit 4 weeks later. Definitely gives meaning to the saying in Vanuatu “island time”.

We snorkelled over this by chance. It is looking a bit neglected but a very cute idea! Would benefit from a good clean and maybe some signage?

Awesome snorkelling and a great day out
Oct 2019
Our local driver recommended a day trip to Hideaway Island and the underwater post office. It was so good we went twice on our time on the island. Both times were a great experience - one day was clear blue skies and the second patchy rain. On both visits we spent most of our time snorkelling and we also posted postcards in the underwater post box. Snorkelling was really good on both days and we saw a lot of fish and coral. One of our favourite places on our time in Vanuatu. Take swimming and snorkelling gear if you have it but if not you can rent snorkel gear on the island. Half of us had our own and the other half rented and the rental gear was good. I would recommend reef shoes too as the beach is purely coral. You can also use your normal shoes to walk down to the waters edge and leave them there. We spent all day there on both occasions. We had lunch and drinks on both occasions and the food was really good. Wasn't overly busy and lots of space even if there are a few people there.

Highly recommended for a great day out on/in the water.

snorkelling
Jan 2019
We were actually quite disappointed by this place. When we arrived we were not given any direction of where to go to collect our snorkelling gear or the advertised postcards to send by any staff member. Maybe because we had gone as day tourists to the island resort. There was no safety talk and told to just swim out and keep submerging until we found it on our own. There was very little to view except a sandy bottom.

I bought a waterproof post card and took a picture at me posting my postcard. That was good fun. The postcard has arrived well.
