About Aelan Chocolate Makers
The ACTIV centre is located at the second lagoon in Port Vila in a luxurious vegetation area where you can find a chocolate factory, a handicraft centre, the Roots cafe and a Virgin Coconut oil factory! Great place with traditional architecture where you can relax and enjoy the tasty Vanuatu chocolate made from bean to bar...A tour is also available to learn how the products are made and taste them. A lovely place to visit with the whole family. The centre is also suitable for wheelchairs and the friendly staff are here to look after you. The business is 100% social responsible with the benefits of the sales of the AELAN (means island in bislama) communities products supporting the local ACTIV (Alternative Communities Trade in Vanuatu) association to assist empowering more communities around Vanuatu. Lets enjoy the Vanuatu communities ALEAN products with the chocolate, handicrafts, spices, oils (coconut and tamanu) and honey and learn about the projects with the local communities.

Overview
It is an unique experience to learn how the chocolate is made from the beans to the bar and taste the different chocolate from different islands origin and with local ingredients such as coconut, coffee, local nuts (Nangai), sea salt, kava, cristallized ginger, cristallized turmeric, cocoa nibs and chili pepper.

Aelan Chocolate Makers has a strong social responsibility as it is owned at 80% by the local NGO ACTIV (Alternative Communities Trade In Vanuatu), which assists the cocoa producers and the local communities from the archipelago of Vanuatu for best agricultural practices training and market access.

The ACTIV centre made of local materials regroups the Aelan Chocolate factory, the extra Virgin Coconut oil factory and the Handicraft centre with the Island shop, which is access-free. The facility is suitable for family with kids and wheel-chairs.

There are beautiful gardens surrounding the structures and gorgeous blooms and fruit are on show throughout the year.

Didn’t get to really see how they make the chocolate , except thru a glass window and nothing was being made at the time. Did taste the chocolates which are nice but expensive . Honestly would not recommend this tour

The tour of the Aelan chocolate makers was fascinating, and we got to try so much chocolate! It doesn't look like much when you arrive, but it was well worth the trip.

Beautiful community. Beautiful experience. It was such an honour to be able to see the chocolate factory and try all the different chocolates. I took a lot of it home but sadly can not find a stockist in Australia.

Thank you so much for your comment! We use to sell our chocolate at the Oxfam shops but they will soon close them so we are looking to find another distributor in the near future...

About 20 minutes by car. It is not in the main part of Port Vila. Definitely worth the trip though
