This is a lovely island just a short ride out of the bay. There is a resort, snack bar, picnic areas, small beach, snorkeling and a large shallow area for kite surfing - fun to watch even if you don't kite! Great place to spend the day!

In the lagoon, this island is quite lovely. There is a hotel on the island with decent food and drinks. You're not supposed to walk around the hotel's grounds and just stay near the jetty, but no one really minds. The beach is lovely. The best part is the boat ride there and back. Great views!

A lovely place to just relax. Weather was great and the water warm. Look for the great sunsets after a day of jet boating, kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, swimming in the sea of fantastic pool.

We paid for the glass bottomed boat trip out to the island, as suggested by other viewers. Unfortunately, we didn't actually get the glass boat and when we asked why, the owner lost all ability to speak English. The island itself is very lovely, although unless you are into water sports or have reservations at the horribly expensive resort restaurant,... More

Great both as a day outing or to stay in the hotel. If you do stay, make sure to get an over water villa facing the ocean. There are a few that don't quite face out, which is what we had booked. They don't allow children in those villas (not sure about the age limit). The villas are modern and... More

This small island is a real paradise and a great escape from Noumea. The beach is gorgeous and I loved the fact that there were not many people when I visited this beautiful place.

If your choosing between Ilot maitre or duck island defiantly come to maitre it is paradise. Duck island: sharp coral, dark blue sea water, small island, rough rocky sand and very busy you need too purchase chairs and umbrellas it gets hot. Food and drinks pricy. Fish are everywhere as soon as you get in the water. Ilot Maitre: over... More

Hired a boat and driver to take us to the island. Very peaceful, and my daughters and I got to see turtles and lots of other sea life. It was nice and quiet, and we enjoyed a picnic in the sunshine before the boat picked us up.

This little island is so much fun! If you're choosing between Duck Island and Maitre, then 100% come to Maitre. I loved both but if you only have the time to visit one island then Maitre is the way to go! Pack a lunch and catch the water taxi over from Anse Vata for 2800F return. Or book a night... More

The sand was so white and fine like flour, and the sea was so clear that we could see a turtle from the beach... I spend the day relaxing on the beach. There is not much else to do but serenity and beauty were enough to make this island a paradise.
