We went to Duck Island catching the water taxi from mainland. It's only a few minutes trip. We stayed there for a little while so our teen could have a snorkel. It was very windy - but it gets that way over there in the afternoons I think no matter which island you visit. There are sun lounges there and... More

Despite its look from Anse Vata, the beach is just shelly. There is little in the way of shade. Visitors are crammed into a corner of the island as the rest of the island is surrounded by coral and not suitable for swimming. You are better off staying at Anse Vata.

We went to Ile aux Canards (Duck Island) on our day stop in Noumea on our cruise. As we got off the ship there were tours to the island for $30 each (minibus and then taxi boat). We thought we could do it cheaper than that (there were 6 of us) and when we walked out of the terminal I... More

Excellent day out. Only 5 minutes by water taxi from Anse Vata beach which was great. Good amount of snorkelling and we saw plenty of fish and a sting ray. The island has good shaded sun chairs/umbrellas/tents but these are not cheap, about 3000cfp for 2 sun lounges under a tent but you have it for the full day, so... More

This was a highlight of our stay in Noumea. From the taxi-boat trip there and back, to the snorkelling and drinks in the sun on the island, great afternoon out. One tip - take flip-flops/thongs as you have to walk over coral both to get onto the island and to get into the sea to snorkel. Once in, it is... More

Was in Noumea in Feb 2015 for a stop off on the Pacific Pearl. There were 6 of us who paid around $30 for the Explorer hop on hop off bus as well as the boat trip to 'Duck Island' and back. It was a stinking hot day and the lack of shade on the island was a pain and... More

We caught the hop on hop off bus then water taxi to the island, paid $20 per person for a lounge and went for a snorkel. As inexperienced snorkelers we loved it. Variety of fish and some bright corals. Some of the reef is dying but it was still fantastic. It is a tourist attraction and as such prices are... More

We got a water taxi over for the afternoon, got off and for want of signage or other indications of where to go, headed to our left. We went in to snorkel, and were standing in knee deep water on sand and rock when a man yelled hysterically from the shore not to stand in the coral. We briefly snorkelled,... More

We spent most of the day on the island today. It was lovely and we came back to the hotel feeling very relaxed. We caught the water taxi over and back (1200xpf pp for anyone over 5 years old). We hired a spot with two lounges and a large beach umbrella when we arrived (3000xpf). We were right on the... More
