I took a large group there to sit near lakes and enjoy. No booze allowed. We couldn't park our cars nearby so had to lug heaps of eskies etc for 500 yards. Better options at beaches.

Yes it's free to visit!! Take your family and enjoy this great place. There is a train for the children to ride for a couple of Kina; a great Aviary with 9 species of Birds of Paradise; Cockatoos; parrots; Kokomos and a Spotted Cat bird. The children can also visit Dinosaur Park which is small but informative. There is BBQ picnic facilities and pedal boats for the lake or have a look at the goats or catch some Barramundi. Finally you could visit the wonderful Orchid Garden which will make you 'oooo'.

Dont miss out on the Tree Kangaroo enclosures either. The sheer size of them will amaze you.

Congratulations to Justin Thatchenko MP and his dedicated staff for this ongoing labour of love!

Whilst a little way out of Port Moresby it is worth the trip to this Park. Entry to the main park is free and this allows you to walk the extensive grounds and view the numerous animal enclosures. For just a few Kina you can visit the magnificent Orchid Gardens (outstanding) and the exotic birds enclosure. If you have kids there is also a water slide, play area and Ferris wheel. A great attraction

I visited the park with my 2 and 3 year old children in late December. There is something to do for all ages. The water slide looked really good. We visited for a walk around so didn’t have to pay for anything. You only pay when you want to do one of the activities. I was a bit worried about the condition of the Ferris wheel and generally park needed some maintenance but apart from this everything else was great. Enjoyed the atmosphere very laid back and relaxing. Staff were very helpful.

This looks from the outside like a cheesy kids amusement park, complete with Ferris wheel and water slide. But if you venture past those elements of the park, you will be rewarded with a beautiful array of flora and fauna in the Orchid Garden and Bird Sanctuary section. If you are a fan of bird watching, you will have the opportunity to see most of the birds available in this country in one spot, including the national bird: the Raggiana bird of paradise. Not only can you see them through the fencing and bars of their enclosures, you can even enter some of the enclosures for a more intimate experience.

If you would like more information, including information about the bird aviaries which you can enter, please check out my blog. The URL is in my profile.

Overview: A fun nature park with outstanding orchid gardens, a tropical bird aviary, and the best croc show in the hemisphere.

The Good: There were two things I most wanted to see in New Guinea: the Raggiana bird of paradise and the Victoria crowned pigeon. The Adventure Park housed them both. The bird of paradise aviary provided photo opportunities in which the birds appeared uncaged. There were also more bird of paradise species than at other local parks.

The orchid garden was spectacular. PNG is home to more orchid species than any other country besides Ecuador, and dozens of them are on display here. The gardens are mesmerizing, and I spent much of my trip there.

Perhaps the biggest highlight was the crocodile feeding - although some in our party found the use of live chickens disturbing. Two enormous crocs were fed. The second was the largest I've seen in any facility. We learned later that the handler, who is deaf, has been working with this animal for about 30 years. He is able to kiss and "ride" the lazy croc. We visited Australia Zoo the following week, and even the Crocoseum didn't stand up to what we witnessed in Port Moresby.

The Bad: We didn't use the water slides, but the water appeared a bit green on the day of our visit.

The Victoria crowned pigeon exhibit was breathtaking in terms of the amount of birds, but left something to be desired for the photographer. No angle afforded a view that appeared "natural."
